A caller on the Piecoro show was at the Shootout banquet last night and said the strong rumor was that Huggins was going to get hired by South Florida. After he hung up, Piecoro said he had heard the same thing.
I don't really give a crap, but thought I'd pass it along to all you diehard Huggs fans.
We talked about South Florida earlier.
South Florida will come to the Shoe the NCH's freshman year...presumably with Jason in tow...maybe Abdul as well.
Frank Martin would certainly go with Huggs and be the guy next in line when Huggs reitres.

I love that rumor! Keep on rolling! I have heard rumors about him getting lured by Duquense, Marshall, Indiana and now South Florida.
So now we know where the guys from NCH are going to school. At least the next coach can eliminate them from the recruiting class.

That would really be sweet. I would pay to go see Nancy sitting in her box when USF with Huggins, Mayo, Walker, Downey and Bennett comes to the Shoe, Huggs gets a standing O and they kick the crap out of UC. While I could never root against my alma mater, that would be the one situation in which I would enjoy a butt kicking (of course only so long as Nancy is there for it).
I think people are getting a little ahead of themselve thinking that Downey, UC recruits and NCH Trio are a given to go where Huggs goes.

Not saying that is going to happen, just a what if. It would be a very ugly situation, especially if it were to follow one year after the scenerio we expect to play out with tOSU game next year.
Of all the rumors, I hope this one is true. Huggs still gets to be in the Big East, which he deserves. If Martin comes with him he will have a stronghold on recruiting in Florida, and it's a place where he could(and would) build his own tradition. and we will get to see him at the shoe every couple years.

i second that, because it will increase from now till march.
Huggs has no idea yet where he may go.
I think it is a legit concern losing Downey and possibly Abdul.
I think Huggins getting a job isn't going to determine if Downey leaves-
I think more importantly it will come down to what coach UC hires next, what the new coaching style is (Up tempo ..) and what players they surround Downey with.
UC Fans are in for a rude awakening the next 2 years regardless of who UC hires unless the new coach can pull magic out of the bottle and convince Mayo/Walker/Ellis to come to Clifton. The cupboard is going to be pretty bare after this year.
UC would have struggled next year even if Huggs had stayed and his contract had been extended
I think Huggs to USF gives us the best chance to land the NCH trio. Walker has stated he wants to stay close to home and Florida isn't nearly as close to home as UC.

I would never accept that. I don't care what the situation is, I won't root against UC.

Downey stays if AK or the "right" coach is hired. If not, I don't know where Devan or Abdul may go, but I could easily see them going to SF and following Huggs there if he is hired by SF.
Especially Abdul and Jason...it's their backyard...well, I guess SF may be in striking distance for Devan's family as well if that mattered to Devan
I'll take the other side of the argument and state that I don't necessarily believe all these recruits are going to go play for Huggs wherever he goes.
My goodness.........how many top recruits has Huggs missed on over the years? There's 3 All-Star teams of players that were said to be locks to come to UC and play for Huggs.
Huggins will have the same negative recruiting used against him at South Florida or wherever he goes as he did at UC.
Here are some of them:
1. "Kid, do you really want to practice 3 to 4 hours a day and get hollered at for 4 hours straight?"
2. "Mom, if you want your son to graduate, you don't want him playing for Bob Huggins!"
3. "Bob Huggins can't win the big game!"
4, 5, 6, 7, 8...........more slamming of Huggs......
Many of the same reasons we couldn't get the top recruits will be the same reasons Huggs will continue to fall short.
Hell, we're shorthanded now and no one is willing to blame any of it on Huggs. Evans, Banks, Bright, Herrera, IJohnson, and Kirkland's injury.......you know Kirk doesn't get injured if he hadn't played for Huggs ;-) . Okay, we won't blame him for everything. After all, he does walk on water around here.
