I was reading this thread becuase of it's title. However, the title and thread were not related.

Thought it was interesting. I don't disagree with Jon, but there are other circumstances which go beyond the OBR. No person wants to live in a community where they are hated, not wanted and verbal assaulted on every occasion. Unfortunately, this the environment she has created.

And that is the reality that may make her leave before 5 years.

I totally agree with Jon on this. Probably why I have gotten into so many pissing matches on this board over the last 6 months. Basketball is a big deal for all of us. It is not a big deal to the powers that be throughout the state of Ohio. She will be here for the full 5 years minimum no matter how disgusted that makes us, and no matter how many people pull their support from the program. $$ and attendance will not drive policy. Their view on education will drive policy.

This is the reality that so many outraged fans have mistakenly thought that they had some ability to effect change. Change is happening, and it is being applauded at high levels. Its just not the kind of change we want. Sorry to say it, but no amount of letter writing, emailing, t-shirts, banners or nasty scathing posts on the internet is going to change any of this.

All we can do is hang on for the ride (if we decide to) and cross our fingers that she and Thomas make the right hiring decision in April.
What quality potential president do you think you could get after you run this one out of town? I would bet a million dollars, if I had it 03-wink that she heard from literally a hundred university presidents supporting her after Huggin's attorney forced her hand. Do you think they're going to recommend this job to anyone if you keep treating her this way? They wouldn't touch it themselves.

I know you probably are thinking "anybody but her", but you'd better be careful what you wish for. There are many, many university presidents who are atrocious when it comes to athletics. If she hates athletics why does she come to the games? Why did she hire a guy with good experience? I do not understand why she didn't axe Huggins after the DUI. Big mistake on her part, and I'd bet she'd like a do-over on that one.

I think you make this too simple - good vs. evil. Fact is, most folks, yourselves and myself included, fall somewhere in between. I'm sure she's shook by the way she's being treated. But if the way people are treating your university president gets out nationally you're going to have a tough time getting anybody who supports athletics at all, if she even leaves anytime soon.

And if there was an incident regarding Thomas, good luck getting him to stay in your community. He's excellent, but I've told you that before. But hey, go hang yourselves and chase him out of town, too. Good luck with that.
She may well be the President of UC in 5 years..but her existence will be in isolation as she will not be able to show herself in public...equate her handling of UC basketball similar to the pro teams in town..Mike Brown took a lot of heat and ulimately gave up contol until the Bengals started winning.....she created this mess and will have to live with it...it was and is a PR nightmare...name a university in this country other than UC that boos their school president the way UC fans are doing...it's sad that she cannot show her face at an athletic event without negative responses from the crowd....
Rath, your are on bud...I'll buy you the sauer brauten and an apple dumpling at Lenny's upstairs of your name sake if she is not gone before 5 years. It won't be the OBR that makes the call, it will be the community of Cincy. The media has already started to turn the corner, assuming the ugly rebuilding period happens as we all expect, the life of Nancy Zimpher will not be pleasent. I believe she is already spending as much of her time away as possible...eventually, she may be a president in absentia, but I can't see that lasting 5 years IMO.

She has the chance to make Mike Brown look like brainiac
Deal. Although I hate betting against something that I want to see happen. Feels like I'm betting on the Steelers to win the Super Bowl. lmfao
Bigbear,
Despite having my MBA from UC pre-Nancy, I know a little about leadership.

Her views about leadership and education...let me try to articulate this as best I can, blah!

Vision trumps all..bull. Execution trumps all. There are thousands of companies succeding everyday without vision....they execute. Vison is something indigenous people have after eating to many plants just before stepping off a mountain top.

UC needs a president to stay out of the way. one without delusions of control and direction setting. Yes to over simplify it just a bit, the problems of Cincinnati come down to the fact we were a manufacturing might that never made the transition ot the service sector, "New" economy. The key to the service economy, attract and retain young, high skilled human resources. The companies goe where their resources are and in the service economy, that is the educated people.

If Cincinnati and Ohio wants to turn that around, better look at the quality of life issues. We don't have mountains, beaches, sun or snow, so they need to get creative at keeping people here.

They key is not some trumped up, delusional educator who thinks they are setting grand new visions. A trained monkey could do the job and we could save money as well
It seems like we are sorta coming close a discussion that never happens on this board....NZ's performance from an academic standpoint leading UC.

Now I dont think she did the best job handling the Huggs situation. Who does?

But, I think she has done very well with academically enhancing UC. I cant speak for everyone, but in International Affairs (out of the poli. sci department) things have gotten better. Of course, these positive changes may have nothing to do with NZ. That has to be considered. But, the princeton review just listed UC as one of the best schools in the midwest....something that I hadn't seen before NZ arrived.

Huggs forced her hand to fire him! That's a good one. Anyone who reads this from the correspondence b/t lawyers has swallowed the Nancy Kool Aid. Huggs was trying to get an extension or clarification that he had 3 yrs. She and her Pat lawyer then twisted this into "oh you can't do your job so you want out now." Her hand was not forced. She could have said "no extension" and left it at that. She turned around, intentionally misinterpreted the letters and gave him the 24 hour ultimatum. She did not act in good faith. Furthermore, the letters also show that Nancy and Pat lawyer were doing everything in their power to anger Huggs to the point he wanted to quit. The scathing commentary about Huggs' 14 years and how horrible the players have been (even ripping the current players) was designed to make Huggs so mad, he'd quit.
Bigbear, are all Akron fans like you, that must be why your teams suck so much. I really dont think you, a fan of some MAC bottom feeder, should be telling us what we are doing wrong.
I hate to remind you, but you just came from a conference on par with the MAC, so one could assume you haven't yet reached the heights of the Big East after just a few months, right? Let's just judge each of us within our own conference, okay?

Let's see, Akron won three fall MAC championships, including football, and men's basketball is currently something like 10-3 and 4-0 in the conference. All this under Thomas' watch and within the last five years. Within the MAC, we are no longer bottom feeders. If UC, within the Big East, wins conference championships, then you have bragging rights. Until then, I suggest you remember where you came from and how recently you got where you are.

I usually don't get fired up with the uninformed, but this is too much.

This year's C-USA is pretty bad. Of last years teams lets look at a partial list of teams that would have coasted to a MAC championship, shall we?

UC
Louisville
Memphis (yep, & they didn't even make the NCAA field last year)
UAB
Marquette
Charlotte
Depaul
I may even make an argument that Houston would have been right at the top of one of the MAC divisions last year.

That is just a silly comment to make.

Therein lies the problem. The average joe UC basketball fan could give a doo-doo about what she is doing academically. All they care about is that their hero was "fired" and the basketball team is going down the toilet next season and probably for longer. And this is not to minimize the importance of the basketball program at UC - it is very important and I want to see it excel as much as the next person. I am not looking forward to the next couple of seasons - it's going to be bad.

I for one have not investigated it enough to know if it's (UC|21) positive or negative and I'm not going to let what someone says on a message board sway me one way or another.

But it is troubling to think that if something like correctly handling the removal of a basketball coach can be botched and from the many examples of poor communication coming from the administration, how is she handling the academic side of things?
Fan,
Can't say definitely how she is handling the academic side, but we do know some things. UC is one of the more expensive public instituitions. The cost of tution has increased under her watch. Lastly, the improvements from what I can see have at least some to deal with a numbers shuffle by Nancy...she moved some of the lower test score. entering freshman to the transition program, UCAT to improve the stats for a quick hit. The drawback, many were minorities who will now have to spend more time and money before getting their degrees.

Most of the low hanging fruit and smoke and mirrors have been exhausted at this point.
Well Im student at UC, so hopefully I know what Im talking about. ;-)

Yeah, UC is really expensive....its gone up in price every year, even before Nancy.

My professors call UC a quasi-private school. We have everything XU has except religion class...all with barely any public funding.

UC isnt anywhere near your average public school. It operates very similiarly to a private school.
STP,
what were the percnetage increases before Nancy?
I have no idea. Im not from ohio, no instate tuition for me. 03-weeping

Okay, you had me until you opened your frickin' mouth dumb***.

CUSA this year does not equal CUSA the past 7 or 8 or however long it was in existence. In fact, the year Kenyon broke his leg, it was ranked #3 in the conference rpi. CUSA was typically ranked 7th or 8th in conference rpi all other years. Now it is ranked about 18th or 19th minus Louisville, Marquette, UC, and Depaul.

Another point: Cincinnati now does not equal Cincinnati then. Many of UC"s past teams would have finished top 4 in the new Big East. This year's team has been decimated by the administration, transfers, injuries, and an ignorant NCAA that won't clear Herrera. If Herrera was at UK or Kansas he'd be playing by now.

To equate Akron and the MAC with UC and CUSA or UC finishing bottom 6 of the new Big East..................line'm up .......we'll play Akron any day of the week.

So shut the hell up.......ye not know what ye are talking about, you fricking idiot. This is a total mess screwed up by our pitiful administration.

Eliminate Nancy, Phil Cockroach, and Jeff Weaselwyler and maybe we return to dominance?

Oh by the way..........we pretty much dominated every conference we were in under Huggins. There were maybe a couple of seasons we were second...........but 14 straight NCAA appearances is what I'LL REMIND YOU OF WHERE WE CAME FROM, DICKHEAD. AND THOSE CONFERENCES WERE FAR BETTER THAN THE MACDONALD CONFERENCE!
I've always thought of the old CUSA as a major conference. I'd never really heard of the MAC before coming to Ohio....whether is was good or bad, it was certainly nowhere near as prominant in the national media with high qaulity teams (UL, UC, MU etc) on espn every week.
