on who stays and who goes. If two players are equal, and one is from a good pipeline to recruiting other good players and the other is from somewhere where you'll probably never sign another player, you probably cut the latter loose. Might sound cruel, but it just makes sense.
I compare this with the Mitch Mustain situation at Southern Cal. Mitch might have been as good or even better than some of the other quarterbacks, but how many kids from Arkansas are USC going to sign, as opposed to schools in the California area. I'd bet money that's why he didn't play any more than he did. Even some of the sportwriters who covered the team wrote that they thought he was the best quarterback on the team at one time. Maybe he was and maybe he wasn't, but all things being pretty equal, my theory holds water.
