Gonzaga is pretty salty. They went into one of the toughest arenas to visit in the country, and came out with a win. I watched that game, and the Zags are very good.
I watch them every time they are own. They are well coached and have bcs level talent.

They play in a part of the country where they are a better pick for a recruit in bb than the local bcs schools.

We are looking to get to the Belmont /wku level imo. We need to get to the level that we are in the champ game at the sbc tournament more years than not.

I think the current player have the talent to make it there 2 times in the next 3 years counting this year.

Achieving Belmont status would be a good, and possibly achieveable goal for now. I don't know how or where they came from. A few years ago I had never heard of Belmont. Someone there is doing something right.
Of the 13 players on the Gonzaga roster, six are redshirts. There is the second part of their success. They are able to keep good coaches for several years when normally they would leave for a Big Six job, and they are willing to swap true freshmen for 5th-year seniors.
It would have been so much better if we had redshirted some of our young players this year. But kids have to want to do that. And some don't. Of course academics might weed out some of our players. It normally does. Let's hope we can keep all our folks eligible. At least that eliminates one reason for players leaving.

That's part of the problem. Probably very few players want to be red shirted at our level, and with no more success than our program has had lately. If coaches at our level told a freshmen recruit that "we want to red shirt you this year", they'd probably tell you "I'll go somewhere where they'll let me play". If it was at a major program, or even a more successful program at our level like Butler or Gonzaga, there would probably be a lot more willing to do that.
Catch 22. Can't get there until you do, and can't do it until you get there.
When Porter was here, I recall redshirting players who became really good players their fifth year. Richard Hardman comes to mind.
And I think Co Willis and Too Tall redshirted and played a fifth year. There's no reason why kids can't be sold on doing that. It gives them longer to earn their degrees, as well as get stronger in the weight room and learn our system their first year. In fact we have a couple this year, but probably should have had at least one or two more.
