the sad part is the Sun Belt is ALWAYS reactive -- NEVER proactive....
I imagine we are waiting to see what happens with the Big East First.

That will probably be a while before it's done... I know most of you guys want App State and Ga Southern in the SB. I just keep hearing our name mentioned in different places periodically as one of the schools in the mix...not just from our board, or here, but hanging with buddies, sports shows, etc... I'be even mentioned on the SBbbs board that 11-alive, SportsExtra, did a thing with College Consultants talking about all the movement and we were mentioned as a possibility in the SB. Who the hell knows anymore... I'd like to win a NC 1st though.
App is too remote. There are better options for any conference.
If it was based on quality of product their chances would be better but location isnt good.
The Sunbelt will continue to ignore that we are a good fit for the conference. When you take into account our geographic location, the surrounding market, and our readiness to move up, we really should be taken more seriously. We may not have had the success of App or GaSou in football, but we are competitive and would do even better once we are FBS. With the new coaching staff and the extra scholarships, we have huge potential. I think we all know the reason that we are not mentioned more begins with a T, ends with a Y. They do not want to face a JSU that's on equal footing. Their view is short sighted. More competition makes everyone better.
It's not that your not a good fit geographically. I think it has more to do that your not in a larger market ( Birmingham is an hour from you) and that even though you guys have a good football program that's not everything. I think your small Arhletic budget will hold you back. And is holding you back from
Getting serious looks.
Jville 50 mile radius market is as large as Mobile. Ga So and App are a long ways from anything.

JSU's market is at least as good as troy state's and way better than App or GaSou. The budget is what it is because of the level that we are at. No one operates at the FCS level with a FBS budget. That would be ridiculous. More excuses. Some people forget where they came from. It's comparable to UNA wanting to move up into the the OVC. You have heard no JSU fan want to deny them that move. On the contrary, we have been very supportive and would love for them to join us in the OVC so we could get back to whipping their butts on a regular basis again. No one talks about how bad UNA's market is or how small their athletic budget is.

In that case so is Troys. But you dont see us going anywhere. If USA's 50mile radius was their market then they would have Pcola and Biloxi. But you dont see them counting that in the books.

I think GA Southern and App State have a name about them. They may have small markets but their names are far reaching in football even for FCS. BTW. App State nor Ga Southern have had invites yet. Its all talk.

And Their Athletic budgets are higher than most FCS

Combination of Athletic Budgets, Facilities, Fan Support, Success in all around sports, and Market is the name of the game.
If a university cant pull fans for at least 50 miles then they are in trouble.

Troy would be nowhere near JSU in a 50 mile radius and give USA Pcola and Biloxi or anything else within 50 miles it still is about the same population.
I will even concede that App and GaSou may be better known in the football world. I will not concede that their recognizability factor makes them a better candidate. But even if you believe that, the Sunbelt is going to have to add more than two teams. There are going to be more teams leave the conference and it will probably happen sooner than you think. So when that happens, then what? I guess the folks down in Pike County will be trying to convince everyone that Mercer, West Florida, Kennesaw, or other such nonsense are better additions than JSU.

Lol. No one is saying that. But I just feel like there's other additions that will be added before they go after a 3rd Bama school.
Such as? Who would you like to see added to the Sunbelt after App and GaSou? Of course, you used to say that you didn't want any FCS schools, but I guess you got over that. Who do you realistically think the Sunbelt can add?
The 3rd Alabama school i could understand the concern. The advantage would be coverage for Troy and USA in Bham which they are now getting, none. With the three in the conference Huntsville might even give a little coverage.

My thinking is the large conferences need to worry about markets. The less wealthy conferences need a tight geographic fit to promote visitor travel and rivalries. One model will not be successful for both type set ups.
After App State and Ga Southern I would like to see NMSU added. They have good basketball. Though It would stretch our footprint. But who's footprint isnt being stretched in these alignments?

As for coverage in Birmingham...We already have 2 radio stations in the Birmingham area. As well as when we play UAB we get coverage in that area. http://www.troytrojans.com/sports/2010/6...dioTV.aspx
Location is important, I feel that JSU has a good central location between Atlanta and Birmingham. There are a large number of JSU Grads in the Birmingham area that would have interest in listening to Sunbelt broadcasts if JSU was part of the conference. Jacksonville also has a large number of students and athletes that come from Georgia with a large number living in the Atlanta area. They are in a good location for fans to travel to several Sunbelt schools for games such as Georgia State and Troy. There was a time that Jacksonville and Troy had a strong rivalry and I looked forward to the games. I hope that the decision makers come to their senses and invites Jacksonville into the Sunbelt.
I live in the Bham coverage area and Troy is only covered when playing UAB. UAB is hated by every station so the coverage is at a minimum.
JSU has almost all games on TV in Bham with TV24.
What system is TV24 ?
Local independent

NMSU? Really? Anybody but JSU, huh Trojan? NMSU would cost the conference more in travel costs for ALL teams than they would bring in. Hopefully, the Sunbelt leadership is smarter than that.
