Tragic what people have to do in this economy. In a better world Downard would get a shot with a Div IA team. I'm sure he'll move up quickly though. And I expect cryin' Brian to complain any second now.

First, programs are no longer classified as IA or IAA - either BCS/FBS or FCS.

But in any "world" Toledo has been IA for about 50 years.

So above makes no sense - Downard IS "getting a shot" with a (FBS) team.

Do they really start school football that young now?

And Hoople, he's referring to a paid coaching job with benefits and all. If he was pretending Toledo wasn't Div1A (sic) he'd be acknowledging that BG has lost three straight to a school from a lower division.

Look at how many college coaches start as a grad assistant - I bet almost every coach started as a GA. I bet if he was a GA at bgSUCKS, you would be praising bgSUCKS for taking a chance on him.

And this is the actual title of the article - Downard takes the next step with graduate assistant job. Not - Toledo coaching staff takes a big step forward

Yeah, few football players get shots at those coveted GAs.

That is an entry into the coaching profession at its lowest level.
