Just so you guys know, the "director of social media position" pays around mid to high $40s at other Michigan public universities. Of course, the University, in all its elitist glory, justified paying more than TWICE the market value for the position because, basically, "we're the University of forking Michigan and we can do whatever the fork we want."
Also, the University thinks its appropriate to not check the education credentials for people who make six figures. Their official stance is that they check education credentials for all teaching positions but for non-teaching positions, it is up to the "hiring units" to decide whether to check education credentials. Which means, they aren't checking education credentials. If they don't want to check the education credentials of a janitor, that's fine. But their arrogance that they don't need to ensure the people they hire are actually accurately representing themselves, especially for positions that pay SIX FORKING FIGURES, that is the height of elitist arrogance.
When scU-M starts taking applications for this position, I'll make sure to tell them I have three degrees from Harvard and I graduated at the top of my class each time.
In an era of declining state appropriations and rising tuition, I find it absolutely OUTRAGEOUS and INSULTING that the University of Michigan finds it appropriate to pay $100k for a "director of social media" position that pays less than half that at other state schools. Every Michigan taxpayer and student/parents who pay tuition to this school should be pi55ed beyond belief.
But, as predicted, I mentioned this to a couple of my scU-M friends who live here on the East Coast, and they just shrugged their shoulders. Because they are the University of Forking Michigan and they can do whatever the Fork the want.
P.S. How did she get busted? She's in a bitter custody dispute with her ex-husband, who ratted her out to compliance. He said he had been telling HR about her for months, but they refused to do anything until he notified compliance. What a surprise. Wouldn't want to make the University look bad or anything. Do a search for this woman's name. She's the definition of vain.
Quote:University of Michigan's social media director resigned Monday after the school became aware she did not graduate from college.
Jordan Miller was hired by the university in February at a $100,000 yearly salary. She occupied a newly created position and was in charge of the university's social media presence and strategy.
When applying, Miller stated on her resume and job application that she graduated from Columbia College in Chicago.
That is not the case.
Miller said the misinformation was "an honest mistake." bull****
"My intention was never to deceive the university, but I acknowledge that I made a mistake, and I'm very sorry," she said in an email to AnnArbor.com on Tuesday. "In light of this, I believe that it's in the best interest of the university that I resign from my position, so I have chosen to do that."
