Moving forward the BE (or whatever it's called) needs to reinvent itself into a coast to coast, 16 team, all-sports league in an East-West format.

We can't be the SEC or the B1G we need to be different. If we want to be relevant we have to be unique. This type of conference offers all-day programming across all the U.S. time zones and the member institutions are generally pretty good.

For football you play the seven in your division and one crossover

For bb you play home and home in your division with two crossover games (one at home and one away)

I hate losing Georgetown and Marquette but UNLV, UNM, and SDSU replace them easily. Not going to miss the other five.

This is a 5-6 bid league in basketball and takes the 'group of five' BCS slot in football most of the time. Provides a national conference with regional divisions. It's better than the current BE and way better than CUSA ever was in both sports. Need to pick up 3 of TULSA, UNLV, BYU, and UNM.

*already in BE

**Rotate the bb tournament between Memphis and Las Vegas (and maybe New Orleans). Now we're talking!
Love it, man. But a group of leftovers will never get a piece of the pie.
We can call it the Big Continent Spanning Conference.

In my opinion, the worst case is that eight+/- of those programs probably won't have any options that are more attractive than reforming a conference with others that are without a home. From a football standpoint, that's no worse than the situation than we were in this year.

While not what we were looking for, it's a workable port in the storm.

Unless you're as attractive as Boise, I don't see how going back to where you were last year is much of an option for many programs.

You're right, this conference would have to earn the 'group of five' bid for football. It would more than hold its own in basketball.
Apparently the Big East will live on, just without DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova, Louisville, Rutgers, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, TCU, Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech (did I forget anyone?).

The Catholic schools will not be able to officially dissolve the Big East, so she lives on, just in massively altered form.

I think UConn and Temple are the only original holdovers? and Temple was kicked out and had to come back.......

I don't really care as long as it's a step up for the Tigers in $$$ and strength of conference.

Believe it or not, UConn was an original founding member of the Big East in 1979. Apparently they are the last man standing (until the ACC gets raided again).

Yep. Let's just hope we have 3-5 years to get things shored up before any more conference raids occur. I think we'll be light years ahead of where we are now with Bowen at the controls instead of he who shall not be named.

You have a lot of faith in Bowen. So far he has shown me little to deserve such confidence.
I was hoping the UConn connection would last. With Pat Summit retiring, the new practice facilities for the Lady Tigers, and UConn on the conference schedule, Memphis was poised to make a serious move in women's bball. Maybe we still can, but it will be an easier sell with UConn on the schedule.

In the long view of history of conferences, it has always been this way.

For starters, see the history of the SIAA (and then the Southern Conference, etc)

I'd like to see Nevada added with UNLV for rivalry purposes (I'm assuming they are rivals). Other than that, I'd love the conference
Why not change the Big East name to the Big 16 if that comes to fruition. At least it sounds bigger than the Big 10 or Big 12.
we could pimp out a new name to corporations for some extra cash. how about United Continental Conference?

Are u kidding? They play every year for the 'Fremont Cannon'. Winner paints it in their respective color on the field right after the game. They hate each other with the power of a thousand suns. Both my sons go (went) to Nevada and won't even go with me to a UNLV game. Not that I care that much about UNLV either. Season tickets mostly for customers etc.

I know it seems like small potatoes, but it's a big deal out here.

Well, you may get your wish. It sounds as if UConn and UC are spearheding something along these very lines. I think this still turns out really well for the BE all-sports schools. The key may be to keep either the BE or the MWC name to ensure that we retain 'group of five' status. Keep that, claim the BCS slot 4 years out of 5 and life is good. 5-6 bid bb league, #5 or #6 fb league.....sounds great to me.
