Full Version: How BIG is a Memphis win over Louisville this weekend now?

What is everyone else's thoughts on the Memphis vs Louisville game for this weekend amidst all this realignment stuff? What I mean is, does anyone else think this game for Memphis is now a bigger "must win" than it was a week ago?

Memphis needs to beat Louisville for obvious reasons:
1) last chance this season to beat a top 25 team (more than likely)
2) win and looking at a 4 or 5 seed, lose and looking at an 8 or 9 seed
3) rivalry game

But with all the realignment talk, does a Memphis win "help" our case at all if the BE dissolves? Louisville is already on the way out to the ACC, and we are coming in (possibly) to the nBE. A win by Louisville just says to the ACC "good job we made a good choice", but a win by Memphis says to the ACC "our newest member just got beat by Memphis, so if we expand more let's look at them".

Let's say the B1G takes two more ACC schools, and then the SEC takes two more ACC schools. Does a win over Louisville this weekend by Memphis help our case of being one of the four teams (likely Uconn, Cincy, Temple, Memphis) they go after to replace what they lose? Or is this truly/simply all about football only?

I just feel like this game is even bigger for Memphis this weekend among all this realignment and BE dissolving and what not.

Thoughts?
Don't think it means a thing in terms of "helping our case" with anybody else.

We should concentrate on the game just for what it is, and that's plenty big enough for rivalry reasons, a good win, rpi, etc.
No. Just no.
I don't think our basketball players give a flip about this. But it's just fine for you to wishfully think out loud.
It's big as far as rivalry, pride, and us being able to thumb our noses at the big conferences that don't want us...but it won't affect anything. It's about football. Period.
A win over Louisville is huge but football is driving the realignment bus.
Looks like most of you are agreeing football is the driving force. Hopefully Memphis can get a win this weekend just for all it would mean across the board, regardless of what that ends up being.

I've got a buddy at work who is a huge Louisville fan, and he is pretty nervous about this weekends game. Hope he is disappointed at the end of the day!
We need our basketball to win when it matters... In the tournament.

And moreso, we need our football team to be good ASAP. Tough task to ask of Fuente, given the state of the program that he received.
Its big because we are playing a top team at home and a win helps our RPI.
It means nothing in the realm of realignment. This thread is dumb.

This thread is not dumb. But this reply to it sure is.
