But if nothing is done, then taxes go up on everyone.

I may be bias but if taxes have to go up, let it go up on those who can afford it more.

When speaking of fairness (Webster's.. not Obamas definition), how is that fair
It may not be fair but life isn't fair.

If taxes have to be raised, it is more fair to raise it on people with money than to raise them on those who don't.

That is incorrect.

Fair isn't equal.

Fair is favorable or acceptable.

Both the English words equity and equality derive from the Latin aequus, meaning fair and even

Origin of FAIR

Middle English fager, fair, from Old English fæger; akin to Old High German fagar beautiful

That may be more favorable to you. But it's not ethical.

It's called theft.

And in the long run, theft is not favorable.

I may be fair but if taxes go up on anyone they should go up on everyone! 47% of the people pay no income tax anyway what the worst that happens that number drops to 44%?

No you are wrong.

When speaking about the government confiscating the taxes of two separate people the ONLY fair way is to make them both equal percentages.

Fair does mean equal in this case. You have bought Obamas incorrect definition of fair when it comes to the tax code.

So you think fair is two equal percentages?

Okay.

What if the movie theater decided to make their ticket prices fair ( according to your definition) charge everyone 1% of their income to watch the movie.

According to your definition of fair, a person who makes 1,000 would pay ten dollars for their ticket and a person making 10k would pay 100 for the same ticket.

Still think fair is equal?

Our tax system is not fair. The people who pay the least taxes benefit most from what government has to offer. Does anyone think that Bill Gates takes out of government what he pays into it? On the flip side, does a welfare queens put as much into government as she takes out of it?
How is "more fair" not an contradiction? Something is either fair, or it isn't. There's no degrees to it.

I mean, women demand fair pay. Does it apply there too?

Believe in higher taxes on the top percent if you want. Just don't try to pretend and pass it off as being equal or fair to all involved.

Raising it only on the "people that can afford it" doesn't even nibble at the problem. Therefore, it's useless.

FTR, I'm for a combination of cutting spending, and increasing the base. To me that means eliminating taxes on businesses. They serve no purpose other than to play favorites and create obstacles in the market.
