There is no reason to develop a defense to stop it when only a handful of teams play it. All their chop blocking is just asking players to get hurt. Rather play ECU, Temple, UMd, Duke, Wake teams in our recruiting area and teams our recruits are more knowledgeable about. If you play a team in the sticks of Georgia, does anyone notice. They have done a great job, I respect that. One of the reason they play a ball control, and we don't do well against that type of offense. Do some want revenge, I don't give a hoot it looks like a lost to me. Where's the benefits in playing them. Except Hilton Head is an hour and half away. We only get a few OOC games, they're early in the season. Sitting in one of the hottest spots in the USA, next to a bunch of dry dusty fields is not my idea of fun for a Labor Day weekend.

Despite the losses, the games were fun and competitive, and the fans great. I would say it was our best rivalry in FCS. Keep it going.

Besides, we need to develop a defense sometime.
Revenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This. The Southern fans were nice, it's a nice 'throwback' game, and we can beat them.

Still, if it's a choice between an ACC team or GSU then we need to choose the ACC team because that'll provide greater exposure. However, there will be years when we need to schedule a fellow G5 and GSU could do the job.
Georgia Southern games were fun and fans were great. But, I agree....why schedule a triple option team that you have to design a completely different defense for and have your front 7 get chopped all game?
Yes, Georgia Southern is interesting but I must agree about the triple option deal until our defense makes greater strides. Now the "Chopping" thing is a whole nother deal. Don't want our defensive linemen and linebackers needing knee surgery.

I think part of the advantage of the TO is that the refs are relatively unfamiliar with calling a game in which it is being used. I think they let a lot of penalties go uncalled.
Might need to look at the dates on the post with the schedule - for 2016. It lists the NC State game as September 6th. That is a Tuesday. I think it probably should be the 3rd.

According to FBSchedules the @NC State game in '16 is 9/17/16
Just going by what is on post #1. Shows NC State as Sept 6 (a Tuesday) and Appy State as Sept 17. Maybe they are in the wrong order, no problemo. However, we will not be playing anyone on a Tuesday the day after Labor Day.

These are fixed. FWIW, these dates were all taken from HM's articles in the Pilot.

Well, looks like ODU has played or will play most of the teams in the immediate "horseshoe."

Only notable exceptions are:
Duke
Navy (their OOC is essentially full, but this would be an awesome series)
UVA (Cavaliers are scared....)

Any ideas on future series? Do we look more into the northeast schools (UMASS series is already in place) and schedule either Temple or Army?

It might be cool to have a game at Rutgers or Temple while Lawry is still here (2017 or 2018,) since he's a Jersey guy.

Please and thank you for any Northeast school. Rutgers may be booked for a while, IIRC.

fbschedules.com shows that Temple needs 1 game for 2017 and 2 for 2018.

Rutgers also needs 1 for 2017 and 2 for 2018.

I agree that it would be awesome to schedule a game with either of those schools. Both would be about a 6 hour drive from Norfolk.

I hope Bruce Stewart is on this.

I mean... Charlotte scheduled a home and home with Temple. They are hosting Temple next season and playing there in 2016.

One challenge with this is that we already have 2 road games scheduled for 2017 so we need the 2 remaining OOC games to be at home. One of these I'm sure will be an fcs cash game. Temple is also in need of a home game for 17, so scheduling a home/away series for 17/18 doesn't fit with them. Rutgers could take an away game in 17 in exchange for a home game in 18.
Big Ten is moving to a 9 game conference schedule, so Rutgers is full through 2017 and already has an away game in 2018.

A series, with Temple would be great. Surprised they haven't made that happen yet.
