I guess we should consider going independent again until some "big time" conference picks us up. 03-shhhh03-lmfao
That's a good story.

I'm disgusted that it's not being celebrated in papers throughout OH and MI.

It is to be expected. The MAC is an Ohio/Michigan conference and having the "outsider" get the first BCS bowl bid irritates many of them.

It does not. C'mon get over your persecution complex.

The Detroit papers hardly ever cover Michigan MAC sports. And when they do, it's usually with a condescending attitude. How has the Chicago coverage been lately for NIU?

Sometimes folks need to do a little Googling 05-stirthepot

There are articles galore in the Washington Post (my hometown paper):

Oh, my, hope this doesn't start a NIU --> nBE thread. 03-lmfao

There's definitely been more coverage than usual, but we're starting from a very low base. Most of the conversation on the radio is still about the Bears. I'm surprised there hasn't been more about TSISB in the championship game.

03-yawn UT has enough trouble trying to get into our 'local' paper on gameday when we have a home game as a top 25 team. How many top 25 teams have ZERO coverage in their 'local' newspaper on a home gameday, yet their rival - who is 20 miles south - gets front page sports coverage on this gameday? I bet only 1 - TOLEDO.

NIU getting more coverage than the Irish. Chicago has always been a notre dame city. Sports radio here has been and continues to be 90% pro sports.

USA Today is in fine hotels throughout both those states.
Great article because not many outside of the MAC realize they've been building toward having a nationally competitive team at NIU for a while.

The program is playing big time games at Solider Field. They are very much on the level of Southern Miss or Fresno State which the media is more comfortable with going back the last 15 years or so.

Until the dust settles and we really know who is in the nBE, I would definitely say it's not a step up over the MAC, just teams thrown all over the Map from Connecticut to FL to ID & CA. Not to slam the nBE because the ACC wouldn't be much of a step up either if at all. The BE & ACC fought to a draw this year (4-4)
Sagarin has the current BE at #6 and the ACC at #704-jawdrop

SJST finished in the BCS top 25 this year and I'll bet they got scant coverage. Of course when you near Stanford, SF 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Cal; it's tough to get print even when you are as good as the Spartans were this year.

Not to mention the Giants and A's in the early part of the season.
