They flew to NE Ohio to presumably talk to Hazell.
Maybe they want to talk to Terry Bowden.
I'm not surprised... What Hazel has done with Kent is more impressive than what NIU's coach did with an already very successful team. And even though it only shows in one seasons record lets not forget Kent finished 2011 on a tear. I think NIU was their first conference loss in something like 13 games.
What happened to Butch Jones? I though he was almost a lock for the job.

Were they carrying donuts?

...or Jim Tressel.

He may be going to Colorado instead.

I have read rumors ranging from Jones not being impressed at all with Purdue to his wife hating Purdue. Either way, he's out.
Just heard on the radio here in Columbus that Bret Bielema is going to Arkansas. Not sure if that has been confirmed or not but apparently multiple outlets are reporting it. That opens another possiblity for both Jones and Hazell. Will be interesting to see what direction Wisky goes if this is in fact true.

Also a very interesting move for Bielema. I would have to assume this is all money motivated. Why would he want to go to the SEC and try and compete down there? He is on a roll in the Big 10 but maybe his ego is telling him he can win down there too.

EDIT: ESPN is now reporting that Bielema will be introduced as the new head coach at Arkansas.
Purdue and Colorado just haven't shown the commitment to their programs that other teams in their conferences have and are asking these coaches to come in and telling them, "Now we will give you YOU what you need to compete, even though we didn't do that for the last coach." Neither one paid their last coach what Jones was making at UC, and the salary is just the tip of the iceberg.
According to ESPN, Hazell is now the top choice at Purdue.

So WI lost their coach right before a BCS game?! What a bunch of rubes.
Herbie better get right on this one with a rant.

I thought Purdue was ready to move up w Tillers success. Guess not. Dont get stuck in a pit, Hazell.
Footballscoop:

"Purdue: Sources close to the situation tell us that Kent State head coach Darrell Hazell will be the next head coach at Purdue. The deal is expected to be finalized tonight. "

Well, that's almost always true that the new guy gets what the old guy wanted.

As for Colorado, they have upped the ante, reportedly offering Jones a 5 year, $13.5 mil contract. That is a major boost over what he is getting at UC and much more than the previous Colorado contract with Embree. The report yesterday was that Colorado agreed to upgrade facilities if Jones accepts.

Oh, and there is also that BE football imploding phenomenon and the impending loss of AQ status, so this is the time for Jones to get out and into a more high profile conference. The caveat, though, is that nobody knows if Jones can build a program from the ground up as would be needed at Colorado because he has followed Kelly from school to school, benefitting from inheriting an already good program.

Hazell told his Flashes tonight that he has not accepted the Purdue job. Doesn't mean he won't, but lots of folks at KSU are shooting this down. stay tuned.

He'll tell his players that he hasn't accepted... right up until it's announced tomorrow morning. That's just how it works. Until he signs on the dotted line, nothing has happened. He's still Kent's coach, and everybody will deny that he's even talking to another school. I don't think it's fair to get the players' hopes up like that.

Purdue has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9:30
The Beacon-Journal has reported "During a Big Time Sports 1350 radio show, KSU fb coach Darrell Hazell said he did not accept Purdue job as has been reported."
