Heading back to the Compass Bowl... yes yes yes

Enjoy HISTORIC Legion Field 03-wink
Best part of the Mayan Prophecy is we may not see Birmingham. 03-lmfao
The kids want to play this game. The coaches want to coach it. Everyone says that the hospitality shown to everyone down there is top notch by the Compass folks, so I'm sure the kids will have a good time. It is also the first bowl game in years where the kids can focus on the experience and the game without the BS of a coaching search and wasting practices with and interim staff.

Also, playing ole' Miss is a really cool match up against an SEC opponent rather than some sunbelt or conf USA school. Great opportunity to see how our speed matches up with those good ole boy southerners...

I wish Legion Field was part of our history. Unfortunately, it keeps coming up in the future!

Bought my ticks to the game...

Going to the same bowl 3 years in a row blows, but at least there are positives for the team itself and for us fans. We know them but I'll list them anyways:

1) With 3 HCs in 3 seasons (not counting Haywood and the fill in bowl HCs), Pitt did well this year to still make it to a bowl. The program is not dead...yet.

2) This team showed steady improvement throughout the season. No one thought this team was going to do much of anything after YSU and UC games. This team fought to get here - which shows the coach is instilling a "never give up" mentality.

3) These coaches are teachers first (unlike previous regimes), and these kids learned alot. Now the coaches can teach the kids some more before the end of the season.

4) Chryst looks like a keeper. I think his schemes fit well with the mindset of WPA. His schemes appear to be very sound and I noticed he appears to be enjoying being the coach here. He reminds me A LOT of Jamie Dixon, and I truly hope PC falls in love with this area.

5) The bowl game gives Pitt an opportunity to do more recruiting by giving an on the field demo of what Pitt can become.
Our plan for future success:

1. Get rid of Pederson. Reflect on our past and incorporate some of it in building new traditions for the football program. Hire an AD who understands tradition and won't squash it in the future.

2. Hope and pray that Chryst loves being the coach at Pitt and stays for a long, long time.

I think he's the right guy for the job and keeping him around for a long time will help this program immensely.
Some former players posted on lair that they have spoken to people in involved in the program and the word is that PC and his family have fallen in love with Pittsburgh!
On another note:

Anyone other than myself planning on making the trip, if so what hotel will yinz be stayin at and what's the best parking lot?
I'm pretty sure we stayed at the Redmont Hotel in Birmingham when we went down for the first game (when Pitt played Kentucky). That was actually pretty nice, quite fancy. Luckily I got a cheap(ish) room and they upgraded us for free (from a single room with two queens to two rooms each with a king) due to a "booking error". Pretty good! (and there was a parking lot right across the street IIRC).

I imagine we might stay there again when we come down for the game this year, if we do go.
I'll be there too.

My second BBVA. I've made all the bowls since the Liberty except last year.
Looks like the price of flights to Birmingham from Pittsburgh absolutely suck? They aren't even direct flights?

Me and my cousin are flying into Atlanta and renting a car. Whole package is $329 a person. We'll be staying at the Days Inn
How far from the ATL to Birmingham?
Bout 2 1/2 hours
It's only a 3 hour drive from Nashville so I am in and out, but I'm there.

I'm thinking about going to Nashville and driving to the game from there. I have a friend in Nashville and that place is awesome.
