I count the nBe at 13 schools for football and 16 for hoops:

Hoops (16): PC, UConn, SJU, SHU, Temple, VU, GU, UC, DU, MU, UM, Tulane, USF, UCF, SMU, UH

Football:
East (7): UConn, Temple, Navy, ECU, USF, USF, UC
West (6): SMU, UH, Tulane, UM, BSU, SDSU

My guess is that the hoops schools, who control the voting for now, don't want to expand the hoops lineup further. Also, BSU and SDSU would probably like a further west coast school to solidify their commitment to the nBe.

The obvious choices, to me, would appear to be Fresno or UNLV. Either one would have a decent chance at landing a slot in the Big West for hoops. Both are in relatively large markets, which fits the BE profile. Fresno has been consistently more competitive in football and a solid attendance draw. Vegas is a more attractive destination.

The nBe would probably like to let the dust settle, but needs to get to work on its TV deal. With BYU and AFA off the table, I say they move quickly.
I would fly to Vegas for a road game. FresNo. Both schools would be fine and have legitimate cases for admission.

If the Tulane instead of Tulsa choice tells me anything, it will be UNLV's choice to make. If UNLV turns them down ( & they've said full membership or no membership), then Fresno will get the offer.

The Big East has decided football strength is no longer an important factor in new members.

The East Carolina addition speaks otherwise. I personally think ECU's program strength is exactly what got them in. The counter to the argument is the addition of Memphis, SMU and slammed home with Tulane. Memphis had it's obvious basketball merits. SMU and Tulane fit the market angle but also fit culturally among other Big East schools. UNLV and Fresno are a different beast altogether. IMO, there will not be any all-sports invites handed out for the next addition...not even for a New Mexico (which I think has zero chance). Does the Big East go program or market? Again, IMO the factors that brought the other weak football members on are no longer factors...although Tulsa does have decent football, market and a school like others in the Big East
I dont see UNLV going in as a football only member....unless they are going to actually build that stadium they talked about.

Seems Fresno is the football school out there that would make sense.

But to be honest, I think grabbing Tulsa all sports makes the most sense, great all around program, good academics, new market in a good size city.

I don't disagree on Fresno or Tulsa...but does the Big East need/want another all-sports member? It would seem an invite would be football only...even if Tulsa. It would take another all-sports loss before adding another IMO.
Ive yet so see even a link that mentions Fresno or Unlv as a candidate?? Am i missing something?
I hope it's Fresno
I really, really hope that Fresno, UNLV tell the Big East to take a hike, and get Boise, SDSU to come back. Add UTEP as well.

Were there any for East Carolina...or Tulane for that matter?

Did you see a link on Tulane? LOL!
Charter members of CUSA not yet invited to Big East:
St. Louis
Charlotte
UAB
Southern Miss

Maybe they continue to work finishing to invite all 12.
They should take UNLV. It's Vegas baby!!!!.
For the love of all that's Holy Fresno over UNLV.

I do, I said it this past weekend and I mean it. Playing Tulsa in football made me realize how much its going to suck to not play you guys anymore. However, in the hierarchy of potential Big East acquisitions Fresno and other more Western teams have to take precedent for the sake of appeasing SDSU and Boise. I'm not sure how Tulsa would sit with those two, they may not mind it, or they may see it as too Eastern a team for them. Who knows?
UMass or UAB...
I don't know that either one would accept. It looks like to me that Thompson is doing a good job of holding the MWC together right now. He must have his schools sold on the fact that if they all say "no", Boise State and SDSU will have no choice but to return. If the BE cannot pry another MWC school away, the BE will be done. Boise State and SDSU will not put up with the addition of another member that's not from the west.
UMass (Eastern market) and UNLV (Western market)
