IF UC truly wants to be relevant on a national level and in one of the
Big 5 conferences, they need to be bold. UofL didn't just magically elevate themselves to the position they found themselves in. They have been on a decades long proactive march toward the big time w/ clear "investment" and bold leadership.

And you have to do this inspite of the "left behind" status we find ourselves in. It's really the "TCU Model". TCU invested in facilities (including announceing a significant stadium renovation project when they still were in the MWC...and not even the Big East) and in coaches by retaining Gary Patterson for an extended period that sustained on field success. They did this..after they were left behind when the SWC imploded and they were left out of the Big 12 originally.

The bold move would be to :

Announce a plan/vision to expand renovate Nippert w/i in specified period of time.

Announce a new extention at an elevated salary level for CBJ.

I realize there's massive complexity into being able to do both of those things, but that's what Leaders do. That's what the TCU administration did, that's what Tom Jurich was able to do at UofL. Sitting back and "wishing and hoping" isn't going to cut it.

While nothing is fully known, it appears UC's strategy under Williams was a "save the Big East" strategy. In hindsight it was ridiculously foolish..if true. Maybe Williams truly believed we "couldn't compete". It seems Ono "woke up" and finally realized that the Big East was dead........but it takes much more than talking points and positioning statements to "Get in". It takes leadership to make a statement that we are truly commited to an athletics strategy at the highest level.

I'm not sure we can get there. The risk is that "others" currently beneath us (USF, UCF, et) use any alignment delay to outflank us and pass us by making bolder investments, upgrades, etc. IF, on top of the UofL news, we somehow lose CBJ in the next 7-10 days to Purdue or NC State.......then we could be in even deeper trouble.
All good ideas Mick.

NC State is interviewing Dykes, and Purdue might have eyes for OSU offensive Coordinator.

UC needs to revoke Bill Koch's credentials and access to UC. He said yesterday that since UC was going back to CUSA
that CBJ is gone and UC should hire Rick Minter again. He is a clown and is totally unprofessional.

I would close down Koch's access right now and pull his press pass.

Agreed. That is something a troll poster says on this message board, not what a sport writer from a major news publication (yes, say what you want about the quality of the Enquirer, but it is the daily paper of metro area with 2.2M people).

This is a complete and total disgrace. I don't want or expect a sports writer to be a cheerleader for the local school. God forbid we ever have that in this town. But to have one who is the smarta$$ in the corner who does nothing more than take potshots and ridicules the school should not be tolerated. UC's athletic dept should get tougher on this. What's the downside? The enquirer stops covering us? Who cares, rather no coverage than this constant negative press and almost wishful thinking that we go back to irrelevance again. After all, there's only OSU, UK and the big boys, we're just the little pretenders who should know our place and like it. F Bill Koch, F P-Doc, F talk radio. UC, its fans and alums need to stand proud and sell our school.

This woe is us sh4t is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Bill just wants to collect a paycheck for minimal work. His job is a lot easier if no one cares and the team goes 4-8.

We should send posts like yours and others to the editor.

And on a side note - wait till Daugherty adds his .02 worth - that should be fun.
If the Editor's really want to evaluate Bill's work, all they have to do is look at the other beat reporter for the area's other local team. Shannon Russell for XU. If you compare her articles to Bill's it is a slam dunk. Just take the past week for instance. If you look at what she wrote in the aftermath of the Drexel and Drake games that XU BARELY won, you would have thought they beat Duke or UNC. If Bill would have wrote those column's it would have been "They suck because they barely beat to lousy teams" theme. It is pretty much like that consistantly.

(and please don't turn this into a "the local media loves XU" thread. This is about how a beat reporter covers their team)

You're right. It's not about XU love. It's about a lazy, disgruntled Cincinnati beat writer. Get someone with at least a little passion.
Can we start a firebillkoch.com website or movement?

Exactly. What in the hell UC is waiting for is beyond me. He should have no access whatsoever to anything regarding UC athletics. The guy is nothing but a mouthpiece to bash UC constantly.
Koch needs to be banned by Saturday!
One thing I did notice is that Acc said UL basketball profitability was a factor. I think a complete redesign of 5/3 should happen before doing anything with the football stadium. Football is easily solved by moving conference games and BCS non conference games to PBS.

That would be something to talk to Tymanh99 about

They need to address both at the same time, while they're still bringing in somewhat legit competition to both buildings.

Good luck finding people willing to donate when they're paying for buildings to host Tulane and SMU.

Because they are few and far between, if even they even exist.

If UC can't sell out a 35K Nippert why would they move games to PBS so that it can look half empty on tv and lose money on advertising due to contractual issues between PBS advertisers and UC advertisers?

Whit has said UC will NOT be moving game to PBS anytime soon. The attendance this past season certainly wouldn't warrant revisiting that.

Yeah, no need to focus on the fact that UC has a really good program or anything like that.

Well I figured UC isn't likely to play against themselves, but yeah whatever.
