As many have noted, the MACC game is as important as MACC as this conference has had.

And yes, there have been some good ones e.g., Marshall @ Toledo.

The reasons should be obvious: Win the MACC and have a chance for a BCS slot.

[I'm trying to remember way back to the days of Big Ben and Miami but I doubt they had an opportunity under any circumstances for a BCS bowl. (weren't the non-AQ qualifications back then so restrictive that it was virtually impossible to make it?). Had to be in the top 6????]

Lose: Well, a consolation bowl game is a bowl game (EMU fans would celebrate ANY bowl game).

This should be a good test for the MACC game:

There is no team within say a 90 minute drive.

Will fans drive 150 or 250 miles to attend maybe the biggest game in these schools' football histories?

Are there many KSU or NIU alums along the Detroit-Toledo corridor?

Will locals in the Detroit area show up? (Wonder what the crowd would be if one of the teams were CMU or Toledo?).

Will fans across the MAC footprint watch on television?

Will fans outside the MAC footprint watch for BCS implications?

Diehard MAC fans have always maintained: Give us a TRULY meaningful game (e.g., chance for a BCS birth) and our fans will treat it like a very, very important game.

We'll see Friday night.
I would like to also make a parenthetical comment:

A few EMU fans ask: Why play FBS football since we haven't gone bowling in 25 years and may not for the next N years. (and KSU fans now remember their 40 year journey in the football desert).

But the Powerball-like chance of having a great season and maybe going to a BCS game is the dream which some enjoy. 03-cloud9
Ticket sales at a brisk pace for KSU. I think we'll have a pretty good crowd on Friday night.
EMU Steve: Big Ben's Miami team of 2003 did not have an opportunity for a BCS spot based on the rules in force at that time...with today's rules in place they would've definitely got a spot.

That's what I was thinking.

My thinking that instead of everyone remembering Boise for breaking the BCS glass ceiling it would have been Miami.

We could have had those Boise as the Miami of the Mountain West or Ohio as Miami of Southeast Ohio threads. 03-lmfao
To quote from the KSU board:

Has to make you chuckle.

And I, for one, will refuse to be anything but elated about this football season whether KSU wins one more game or no more games or two more games or we play in the Orange Bowl or the Rose-Bowl-of-pizza-sponsored-bowls. I'm good.

I'm thinking about heading up to the game, even without UT in it.
Im going. should be a good one

Any chatter on AZZ or HawkTalk about getting groups to go?

That would be a good sign. Would love to see EMU, BG and Tol send a couple thousand each, w/ more from CMU, WMU.
MAC fans within a few hours drive of Motown MUST attend this game! We are now on the biggest football stage in our history and the fans need to show up in droves and make Ford Field rock.

Make sure you sit on your MAC-West (visitor) side.

Well, I am not going, watching or listening. Have to work and can't take a vacation day.
Would be good if the MAC office got Harrison, Gates, Turner, and others to promote the game in some TV slots. Combine MACtion with NFL standouts, and push for the BCS bid.

Great idea. Josh Cribbs should be all over this considering what he did for Kent baseball team.

If I go, I'll be sitting on the home side in some midnight blue and gold. 04-rock

Exactly.

Hell, I could write the scripts for 2 or 3 30 sec slots in 15 minutes.

Anyone got links in the MAC office to push this?

Good for him. Even if they are rooting for the wrong team. 03-nutkick
Should be a good game, but I feel that NIU is totally under the radar when it comes to national attention and I still think they are the better team. The Huskies are one point away from being undefeated heading into this game.

I wish Kent State the best of luck in trying to shut down Lynch.

I think a lot of national people agree with you. Look at all the bowl projections (ESPN, Phil Steel, CBS, Sports Illustrated, CFN, SB Nation & Sporting News). If any of them thought Kent State would win, they would probably project them in the Orange Bowl. It looks like they expect NIU to win and then not reach #16 in the BCS.
