05-stirthepot I'm bored. So I am dreaming up my dream conference. While I am doing it , why don't you share your Dream conference with all of us! 02-13-banana
Northern Division
1. UCONN
2. Boston College
3. Syracuse
4. PSU
5, Pittsburgh
6. Notre Dame

Southern Division
1. West Virginia
2. VA Tech
2. Louisville
4. Memphis
5. South Florida
6. Miami
Notre Dame
Penn St
Pitt
Syracuse
West Virginia
Boston College
Uconn
Rutgers
Maryland
Temple

Jackson
That's truely a Northeastern conference.
Here you go:

Boston College
Connecticut
Georgetown
Pitt
Providence
St. John's
Seton Hall
Syracuse
Villanova

This, of course, was the Big East from 1982 to 1990.
It was a sweet NE basketball conference but not a good all sports conference. Football seems to be the big issue for conferences in the future.
Penn State
Notre Dame
Michigan
Duke
UConn
WVU
Pitt
UL
Rutgers
Seton Hall (If they add a football team)
Nova
Syracuse
Impressive
Maybe a fun conference for this part of the country could be:

Louisville
Kentucky
Cincinnati
Ohio State
Indiana
Memphis
Notre Dame
West Virginia
Penn State
Pittsburgh

......this would also provide a good combo of football and basketball.
Eastern
Rutgers
Temple
Connecticut
Syracuse
Boston College
Penn State

Independent
West Virginia
Pitt
Maryland
Louisville
Cincinnati
Notre Dame

Out of Division partner in Football:
Rutgers - West Virginia
Boston College - Notre Dame
Temple - Cincy
Maryland - Syracuse
Penn State - Pitt
Connecticut - Louisville

The ultimate eastern conference of course. Its a balanced all-sports behemoth. Football would be 8 conference games, 5 in division and 3 out of division, 1 of which is a permanent rival, the other 2 rotating. Basketball would be 16 games, playing everyone once and 5 repeat matchups, 3 of which would be permanent repeats and the other 2 rotating. The permenant rivals would be reevaluated in both sports every few years.
My Current dream conference:

Penn State
Notre Dame
Syracuse
Maryland
Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Connecticut
Boston College
Louisville
Cincinnati

Cheers,
Neil
What I was hoping for....

East Carolina
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
Connecticut
Rutgers
Louisville
Cincinnati
South Florida

Why? Syracuse, Boston College, and Miami were gone to the ACC.

What I hope for now is...

East Carolina
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
Syracuse
Rutgers
Connecticut
Louisville
Cincinnati
South Florida

Ideally, ECU would have been part of the original ACC

NC State
UNC
Wake
Duke
ECU
UVA
South Carolina
Clemson
UMD
(Add VPI)

I don't know how much national appeal a conference would have with the Commmonwealth of Virginia, and the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. Ideally, we would all like to be able to drive a couple hours to see our team play our rivals.

All well and good, but where does Georgetown and Villanova fit in an all-sports conference? What conference provides football as well as high-major basketball opportunities for these schools?

It's clear by the tone of this board that medium sized, private schools like these are not candidates for any of these expansion scenarios. Anyone who would get on this board and make the case to take Georgetown and Villanova in football over state-supported schools like ECU, UCF, and Memphis would be, well... 04-chairshot

And talking about conferences, what about St. John's? At 20,000 students, it's too big for any of the smaller NE conferences and actually larger in size than Syracuse.

I'd be on board with that one :uberbow:
If we're not going to stick to regions, why not....

Southern Cal
Michigan
Ohio State
Penn St.
Notre Dame
Oklahoma (most years, maybe not this year)

Texas
LSU
Auburn
Georgia
VA Tech
Miami

For football only, travel would be too expensive for other sports.
north
boston college
rutgers
temple
syracuse
uconn
notre dame

south
pitt
maryland
wvu
va tech
loiusville
penn st

that damn southern division would be a beast haha
North
Notre Dame
Penn State
Michigan
Syracuse
Connecticut
Rutgers
Boston College

South
Pitt
West Virginia
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Maryland
Cincinnati
South Florida

Ouch
Louisville
Kentucky
Indiana
Cincinnati
Purdue
Notre Shame
Ohio St.
West Virginia
Tennessee
Memphis
Vanderbilt
Michigan

If the government dug up Louisville and replanted it in Sarasota Florida, this would be my conference.

Louisville
USF
UCF
Florida
Florida St.
Florida Atlantic
Miami
S. Miss
Tulane
LSU
You need some holiday cheer Wilkie any conference that has Ul has to have UC! Just as you have dominated in football the last few years UC has totally domiated in Basketball for a decade. The two scools need each other....its not like you to dog us wassup with that???
Personally I'd love to have the Big 10 plus Cincinnati.

Cincinnati
Ohio State
Penn State
Michigan
Northwestern
Indiana
Purdue
Michigan State
Illinois
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin

Of course, there is no way it would ever happen...
