I think one of the unsung heroes of this football season has been NIU's fill-in Offensive Coordinator Rod Carey. Have we ever had a finer OC?

This board was constantly complaining about Limegrover, and even Matt Canada had his detractors, but as far as I can tell Carey has been nothing short of outstanding. Kudos to Coach Rod Carey “a real man of genius” on a superb season to date.

+1 billion. I feel this way about all our other coaches, too.
I agree.
Would we have beaten Iowa if Carey had called the plays??
We will never know.

Hell yes we would have won! No question at all in my mind.
He has done an amazing job as an OC including outstanding adjustments during the games. I just wish that we had a RB that could carry the ball so Lynch does not have to carry the full load. Lynch guy is an athletic freak and he seems very durable but if he goes down we are in big trouble. At this point nothing will nor should change for the remainder of the season or post season. I can't remember ever seeing one player account for over 90% of a team's offense as Lych did against Toledo.

Next year, I hope that we can get more carries from the RBs.

I'm amazed that this is still brought up. Could Lynch get hurt? It's possible. Based on what's happened through 11 games and the fact he's missed zero time due to injury, is it likely? No.

Stats through 11 games:

(Att-Gain-TDs-Avg/Rush)

Lynch 215-1587-16-7.0
Settle 101-460-5-4.5
Harris 55-238-4-4.1
Daniels 35-196-4-5.3

Jordan Lynch, even though he has more rushing attempts than our three top RBs COMBINED, is averaging 7.0 yards per rush. Once again, 7.0 yards per rush.

Is Jordan Lynch banged up? No doubt. Has it affected his game? Not one bit, as far as I can see.

Jordan Lynch is #3 in Rushing in FBS football, #3 in Total Offense and #3 in Points Responsible For. Lynch is also #10 in Passing Efficiency.

When you have a weapon like Jordan Lynch, there's only one thing to do: GIVE HIM THE BALL!

Is Lynch playing with an injury?
Carey has been amazing. He lacks experience as a coordinator and head coach, but is he our best option as head coach if we hire internally? Would hiring Carey keep some of the other coaches here? It would be nice to keep some continuity going into 2013 with so much talent coming back.

It's November. Everybody hurts like hell right now.

Boards are made for complaining. Limegrover and Canada did great jobs for us. We scored HUGE points and won big games, not sure you can ask anything more from staff.
Here here!
Not only has he done a great job as the offensive coordinator, despite the fact that he didn't go into the season thinking he'd be one, but he has done an INCREDIBLE job as the offensive line coach & run game coordinator. Our quarterback might end up leading the nation in rushing, and our offensive line has been amazing despite having no returning starters and no senior starters. They also rotate guys (which you almost never hear of on an offensive line) and you hardly notice since the performance is so consistently solid.

Coach Carey has done an incredible job. I'd have no problem letting him keep all of his current responsibilities in 2012. Heck, we might have to in order to prevent him from being poached by a BCS school.

Of course boards are made for complaining...my point was is that despite the culture of message boards being a sounding board for all slights, imagined or otherwise, I've not heard one single gripe with Rod Carey's playcalling, and that speaks volumes to the masterful job Carey has done. If DD does leave this year, I think Carey has to get an interview for his spot.
Rod has been fantastic!

I saw Rod as a good choice for the OC when Canada left for Wiskey.

He reminds me of LSU OC Greg Strudrawa, both in that he is also the OL coach and now with the eerie similarity in getting the job after previous OC fell ill.

I think the Offensive scheme NIU runs is more complex than LSU and it is clear the chemistry between the offensive coaches is very good.
