This is giving me a headache. The MAC is mentioned in this article.

This is like 52 card pickup. Half of the deck is back in place but the other half is scattered all over the floor. Round and round she goes...where it stops no one knows.
Unclear of what the thread title is saying.

We already part of the group of five.

Cusa
Sunbelt
Mac
Big east
Mountain west
MAC, BE, SBC, MWC, and C-USA got buy-in a couple of weeks ago that the highest ranked champion of the five would automatically get invited to one of the "contracted bowls" that used to be considered the BCS bowl games. This means that at least in football the Big East has no better of a chance at getting into one of these games than the other four conferences. The Big Ten and Pac 12 are contracted to the Rose Bowl, the SEC and Big 12 to another one (can't remember the name) and the ACC is contracted to be against an at large in one of the bowl games. That at large is one of three open slots and the highest ranked champion of the "five non-BCS" is guaranteed one of those three spots. Even if the highest ranked champion is ranked 25th in the country.....or worse for that matter.

The WAC was left out and is dying.

Thanks for the explanation, Brian.
The WAC was the only conference left out?? WOW! That seriously sucks, but why in the world would they leave them out and them only? Seems a tad unfair.

There's no certainty that the WAC is going to make it to 2014.
Should also add, the five conferences had to lobby hard for this. It's not like everyone else wanted them in.

The WAC will no longer sponsor football after this year. There is no more WAC football.
a mac team would have to rank first of about 50-60 schools in the group of 5 to go to one of the lesser new bcs bowls. imo, the mac and similar conferences should focus instead on securing good mid level tie ins for their top couple teams. i'd much rather see the rockets or this yrs kent st or niu teams play a team like michigan, texas, vandy, etc (top 20-30 type name teams) in bowls on a regular basis than wish for the once in a lifetime shot at a top 5 team in the sugar bowl

As you say that, Boise State is #22 and IKent State is #23 in the BCS standings this year. If this would be in effect this year, Kent State would have an excellent chance of being the highest ranked and getting into one of those bowls. That would equal a few million dollars for the MAC and Kent State.
What a mess.

The Big East is stuck in a case where perception will likely become reality. The Rutgers move makes Boise and SDSU question the value of the TV contract that's up for renegotiation. The threat of those two teams pulling out will likely tank that same TV contract, causing them to actually pull out of the conference.

It's shocking to see how fast the ground underneath the Big East has given way.
