These people have to be among the most deceptive, duplicitous in the entire population. The nBE commish comes in to bring the conference together and get the best media deal he can for the members. I doubt he knew anything about Rutgers being on the cusp of leaving. ACC commish was probably blind sided by the Maryland move. Both of those commissioners would probably car jack a team for themselves if they could. The presidents of universities operate behind the scenes and talk out of both sides of their mouths and these are people that are supposed to be looked up to. Our culture has turned to complete crap.

Disclaimer: The quickness and surprise of these latest expansion moves are what motivated my post, not the fact that the schools happen to be Rutgers and Maryland.
Hate to say this but most information I can gather points to Rutgers and the Big Ten negotiating for at least a year if not 2 years now. There's nothing quick about our departure. There's also zero shock that we've wanted this. It is very shocking we're finally getting in though. Maryland I can't speak for.

You are correct. Informal "feelers" started before Pitt and 'Cuse moved last Summer and heated up after that went through.

Thats true. I remember hearing the rumors about the B1G taking Missouri, Rutgers, Pitt, and the Cuse a long time ago...what was shocking was how fast that Pitt/Cuse to the ACC thing went down.
Rutgers fans noticed Aresco failed to mention us in several prominent interviews, notably during the RU/USF game on ESPN Thursday night in September. Only the conspiracy minded among us thought that meant he knew we were leaving, but it may have been a clue that he wasn't factoring in Rutgers during TV negotiations.
