Here are the BCS rankings (which includes those outside of the 25 as well). It looks like NIU has a way to go even if they get ranked this week.

25 Washington .0850
26 Boise .0739
27 Arizona .0708
28 Kent .0497
29 NIU .0372

The computers are the biggest detractor of course for them. They would need to make up a lot of human votes to get in.
Crazy we are 29th in BCS with our SOS

Yep, we can't really complain about that.
I was told NIU had a chance to get into the Top 16 of the BCS...lulz
Looks like Toledo is still in the top 50 there, so a win against them should certainly help us with SoS. Same with Kent State if that matchup were to happen.

The Toledo and Ohio losses make it a little more muddy but if NIU had beaten a ranked Toledo team, a ranked Kent State, then a 13-1 NIU team should have been in an at large BCS position. Same can be said of a 13-1 Kent or Toledo team. Toledo's loss made the argument a little less sturdy, but even with that loss, a one loss MAC champ should have gotten consideration, strong consideration. You can say its the computer polls and we never had a chance because computers dont like MAC schedules, but the human polls are the bulk of the ranking. I didnt realize how firmly entrenched the coaches and media were about protecting their BCS turf. If NIU and other "mid majors' went up the rankings as they should have, it would have been a whole other ballgame, but the problem is the coaches and media knows how it works and put the nix on it. If this was 2003, and you had this year's results, I think a 13-1 NIU team would have finished around 13 to 15 and been in the BCS picture. Voter biases have changed since then, heck half of the media wont even vote for a MAC team even if it were the best team in the nation.
Well.. if they're 29th as is, and Toledo and Ohio had stayed ranked, and NIU had won out, then I don't think it'd be crazy to think they could have moved close to 16 depending on how other things went.

The way the votes are playing out though, it still would not have been possible, there is always going to be that bad 25-40 Big East and Big 10 team that the coaches will put ahead of the MAC team, if that much worse Big East/Big 10 team upsets an over-inflated and overranked Big 10/Big East team somewhere in the 10 to 20 range. The way votes are distributed and kept in conference, it just can't happen. I didnt realize the biases had gotten THAT bad until the Rutgers situation. In fact, watch what happens this week, a bad bad Cincinatti team will upset a highly highly overranked Rutgers team, and then Cincinatti will pass up NIU. Never ending, it just never ends, a perpetual loop.

Polls need to be made up of completley INDEPENDENT and UNBIASED individuals, like a committee as the NCAA tourney has (although I realize these are not perfect). A group of individuals that will not benefit from one conference doing well. If you actually had honest, accurate polls, the BCS would actually have been a very fair, and good system. Yet on other hand, the fact the BCS is weighted toward the human polls, is the very reason the polls are not honest and accurate anymore.
