NIU Coach Dave Doeren, and Fatty’s Pub and Grille announce “Huskies Fore Hope” Golf Tournament and artist John Bukaty raise $20,000 for DeKalb & Sycamore Schools Special Education Programs
DeKalb, IL - NIU Football Head Coach, Dave Doeren, and Jeff Dobie, owner of Fatty’s Pub and Grille in DeKalb, Illinois, announced today that their joint charity golf outing, “Huskies Fore Hope”, along with a donation of paintings from artist John Bukaty from Kartma.com have raised a total of $20,000 for the DeKalb and Sycamore Public School Districts. Monies will help with their special needs programs with $10,000 going to each school district.
Coach Dave Doeren and Fatty’s Pub and Grille’s “Huskies Fore Hope” Golf Outing doubled last year's donation to the DeKalb and Sycamore Public Schools Special Needs Programs. With the help of John Bukaty, a New Orleans Artist and one of Coach Doeren's high school classmates, additional funds were raised for the donation.
Bukaty painted and then sold two paintings at the Soldier Field Showdown between the Huskies and Iowa. The first painting was sold to Brian and Renee Bemis with the proceeds’ going to Coach Doeren's Family Charity for increasing Special Needs Assistance in the local public schools. Bukaty's second painting was sold in a Public Auction on NIU's website.
“We are very grateful to Coach Doeren and “Huskies Fore Hope” sponsored by Fatty’s Pub and Grille for their $10,000 donation to special education programming for the Sycamore School District. The donation will be used to enhance students’ experiences in the areas of technology, life skills, and core academics,” said Jan Benson, Director of Special Education for the Sycamore School District.
Coach Dave Doeren stated, "There are so many young people that have and will continue to benefit from the money raised through “Huskies Fore Hope”. I am so fortunate that Jeff Dobie and his family have started such a pay if forward golf outing to help our community. To be able to have a friend like John Bukaty be a part of this process was really special to me and my family. I would personally like to thank Brian and Renee Bemis for being a great supporter of our cause.”
The “Huskies Fore Hope” Golf Outing is held every annually in July at the River Heights Golf Course in DeKalb. The golf outing has successfully sold out 4 consecutive years and features a banquet dinner with an extensive raffle and silent auction.
