With three game remaining on everyone's (sans Rutgers, who has 4) schedule, I decided to attempt a prediction on the rest of the schedule this year.
Louisville 11-1 (6-1)
W @Syracuse
W UConn
L @Rutgers
Rutgers 10-2 (6-1)
W Army
L @Cincinnati
W @Pitt
W Louisville
Cincinnati 10-2 (6-1)
W @Temple
W Rutgers
W USF
W UConn
Syracuse 5-7 (4-3)
L Louisville
L @Missouri
W @Temple
Temple 5-7 (2-5)
L Cincinnati
W @Army
L Syracuse
*W @Hawaii
Pitt 6-6 (3-4)
W @Uconn
L Rutgers
W @USF
USF 3-9 (1-6)
L @Miami
L @Cincinati
L Pitt
UConn 3-9 (0-7)
L Pitt
L @Louisville
L Cincinnati
Standings
Louisville 11-1 (6-1) *Orange/Russell/Belk
Rutgers 10-2 (6-1) *Orange/Russell/Belk
Cincinnati 10-2 (6-1) *Orange/Russell/Belk
Syracuse 5-7 (4-3)
Pitt 6-6 (3-4) *Pinstripe
Temple 4-7 (2-5)
USF 3-9 (1-6)
UConn 3-9 (0-7)
I think a three-way tie is a very real possibility. Of course the Rutgers fan in me wants the Knights to go 7-0 in league play but it's more realistic to expect them to go 2-1 in that stretch. The Cincy away game worries me the most so I'm piking that game as the loser for us.
Same story with Louisville. I'm not convinced they will go 3-0 and will either drop a game vs. Syracuse or Rutgers. I think Syracuse will have Louisville on the ropes for most of the game but the Cardinals will prevail. I think Rutgers will get up for the big game and season finale and end the Cardinals undefeated season in Piscataway on ESPN for the 2nd time in 6 years.
There's no reason for Cincinnati to go at least 3-1 down the stretch. If they beat Rutgers, like I have picked them to, we end up in our 3-way tie.
Pitt goes to the Pinstripe bowl with wins over UConn and USF. Syracuse doesn't become bowl eligible. Temple misses the postseason even with a potential win at Hawaii. USF and UConn don't win again.
So, according to Big East rules, with three 6-1 teams with identical 1-1 records vs each other, the highest ranked team will earn the BCS bid.
Who will that end up being? Louisville with and unblemished record until the final day of the season and a better record overall? Rutgers with a win on national TV? Or Cincinnati ending the season with a 5-game winning streak?
Discuss and feel free to offer your predicitons as well.
