This seems to substantiate what I have said before.....after the big game betweeen Bama-LSU......A&M and UT have the biggest fan base in Houston followed by OU and Oklahoma State.
It makes a big difference when the games are hyped up. ECU vs. Houston doesn't get the average fan excited when no one talks about the game and it just shows up on TV. Also, your comparing top 25 programs. Again, more hype. I think you need to evaluate your opinions based on other metrics as well, such as records, conferences, ect. All of these things get the public excited to watch the games and the numbers reflect that more than anything else.

Not that it matters to anyone else, but I prefer to look at it like this.
This just in: bad teams playing on obscure networks get bad ratings!
It is what it it.

UH doesn't get good ratings in their hometown unless they are in contention for a BCS bowl or playing a Texas/Oklahoma team with a big local fan base to boost their ratings.

They dont have to be in BCS contention. They just cant suck and do very well on some obscure regonal channel thats not located with the other sports channels. Put the Coogs on ESPN-U and they will draw as well as the average Big-12 game in the Houston area. As a reference point, all you need to do is look at the Baylor vs Kansas game that was also on FSS this weekend. It scored a .2 while an 11AM Cougar game scored a .4.

What I actually find shocking is that Bama vs LSU nearly doubled the Aggie viewership right in the Aggies own backyard---maybe that will put all this Ags "owning" Houston crap to rest for a while.
We did great for a crappy 11am time.

But we'll see who owns the ratings this weekend (hint: it won't be Coogie)
What was the ratings for the ECU Houston game in North Carolina?

Not according to study done by Bortz media group. They claim we have the 3rd best TV ratings in Houston.

Quote:Hance said he thought the most nervous time for Tech was last year. To build the Red Raiders’ case as storm clouds swirled, the university hired a Denver firm to determine where Tech’s three-year average television ratings ranked within the Big 12 geographic area. Hance said the firm reported that Tech football had the second-highest television ratings in Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Waco/Temple/Bryan, Ames, Iowa, and Columbia-Jefferson City, Mo. The Red Raiders were the third most popular TV team over a three-year period in Houston, San Antonio and St. Louis, he said, and fourth most popular in Tulsa, Okla.

“The reason I hired and spent the money on this firm is I wanted to dismiss the myth that we’re a regional school or regional market,” Hance said. “We have a national following. We have a state following.

“We are a national research university, and we have done a lot of things that we’re a national university in sports as well. If somebody’s flipping channels and they see a helmet with a double-T on it, they don’t have to think, ‘Wonder what that is?’ They know.”

Other than the 09 UT-Neb/Big 12 Championship game, no once has come close to matching the UT-Tech game in 08 in ABC in Houston.

This, at least someone gets it. I have been saying this for almost a year and some people don't want to accept the facts.

lol...no, I expect not. I think it proves the point I have always made. These big cities are too diverse for anyone to claim the "own" them. But there are so many people that many teams can deliver a solid audience.

This weekend will be huge for A&M and I will be pulling for the Ags this weekend. The coogs won't be mentioned because they are playing on CBSCS and the Chronicle can't get ratings from obscure networks that no one gets or cares about.

Don't worry though, when they start playing UConn, Rutgers and Cincy, their ratings will soar. UT, A&M and Tech fans better watch out because Houstonians will feverishly tune in to watch those exciting matchups.

No clue. You might search local NC newspapers.

I disagree. It's the Texans, the Big 12/SEC and UH when they are undefeated playing for a BCS bowl with a heisman hyped QB or they get a big name Texas school at home. Otherwise, it's the Texans and then the Big 12/SEC. No one else comes close and the numbers prove that.

Good Lord. What a troll.

I'll be tagging this post. When we are not on FSN-S or CSS-Sorta West, you will be embarassed. ECU vs Hou 4.6 no Heisman no BCS. No FSN.

2009 Conference USA championship game which was less than the 09 Tech-UH on the same channel. Hey, I give UH fans credit, they tune in when they are playing for a CUSA championship, have an undefeated season with a heisman hyped QB or they play Tech.
We know OUR University Of HOUSTON ratings are down, but so are OUR Rockets and OUR Astros and so what... My - LOL

Lumping all of the big12/sec teams together is highly misleading. Huge drop off after UT/ATM/LSU. You are correct in that Houston is a pro town first.
