Thanks for posting! I never get tired of listening to Aresco. He looked tired from being up late, watching Boise-San Diego State.

Um...this is from friday.
Man, that guy gets around. I didn't follow it as closely before, but did Marinatto do this many game appearances and interviews?

My bad, the thread title said from friday.

I dont listen to these things because its just the same old same old. They aren't going to tell us anything we don't already know. They hold press conferences for that kind of stuff.
That interview has to be from today, since he said SDSU edged Boise, lol.

Nothing new, but it's good to hear him say the BCS access and pay is as important as the TV deal. He also said realignment was settling down, which means he doesn't expect any more defections.

I don't recall Marinatto getting around like this...but I'd say this is a unique time period of being the new commish and with realignment, tv deals, etc all going on he's making sure he's getting familiar with all the programs and decision makers at each program this first few months.

Probably go back to the normal commish behavior and travel once all of this is behind us next year.
Also of note, if he's doing interviews and attending the Big East soccer championship, I'm not sure that he's focused on that ESPN extension we heard was expiring tomorrow. If they were trying to hammer out a deal he'd be sequestered somewhere working on it I'd say.

The thing everyone also has to remember is that Marinatto was part of the conference for a couple of decades. Aresco is new, he is doing the rounds and not only checking out all the campuses but also doing a lot of interviews because he is new to both his position, the conference and the world of college athletics.

Also JM did go to these functions because it was a CCG and he would be there to hand over the championship trophy. It's just that not a lot of people wanted to talk to Marinatto. Now we have a TV deal we're working on, about to bring in 5 new all sports members and 2 FB members and we're searching for another member. So lots of stuff to discuss.

I think we overestimate how much the commish himself is involved with the TV deal. Thats why we have those TV folks we hired to negotiate for us. I think a high ranking underling (I can't think of a better name for someone under the commish for some reason) along with those TV folks do the leg work and Aresco gets updates on progress and when both sides of the table think they have a deal they report to their superiors on both sides and see if they get the company/conference approval. I.E. Arresco tells them what they TV folks are offering and they (School Presidents) vote to accept the terms.

I hope Aresco never considers anything Marinatto did to be "normal commish behavior." 03-lmfao

IMO, it's going to open bids. No way in hell it's not. I would be beyond shocked. Maybe ESPN gets a partial deal for Big Mondays or something, but I really don't expect anything substantial.

Aresco the Schmoozer!
--------------
RU ready for Primetime!!!
Even though I posted the vid earlier I finally just got a chance to watch the whole thing. After viewing it I was reminded of comments Aresco made in the first few days of his tenure. He mentioned that he did not simply want to be a "hired gun" commissioner who's only objective was to secure a big tv deal. He said this given the obvious outward appearance of the BE hiring the first network exec to be a college conference commish. What he said he looked forward to was being a complete commish and humbled himself by saying he had a lot to learn on that side but was genuinely excited by that challenge.

When he said that he must have had days like these in mind.

What a thrill to see a guy taking on a helluva challenge and appearing to enjoy it so much! Go get 'em commish!
