Chicago has and will always be a pro sports town. The professional sports teams are gonna gobble up most of the air time no matter how bad they are. And whatever time the day shows (whether it's Mully & Hanley, Mac & Spiegs, Boers and Bernstein) devote to college sports is gonna be predominantly Big Ten because that's where the biggest listening audience is. So in terms of air time it is what it is.

At least we get some airtime on The Score. I don't know if I've ever heard NIU mentioned except in passing on 1000.

These What If's are silly though, if your'e going to go that route, you could say that about just about anyone.

I agree on the first point. I also remember quite well the criticism of him on this board. Some of it was deserved. Some of it wasn't. I still would've thought he made some questionable coaching decisions during his time here even if we'd have won in Detroit.

But that one night, for most people, made THE difference in how they view Kill and his time here.

It also didn't help his legacy that Doeren won the MAC Championship last year with a team that wasn't as good as the 2010 team, and also beat an Ohio team that as far as I can tell was better than the Miami team Kill lost to the year before.

Again, absolutely correct. I have never experienced anything so devastating in sports as what happened that night. I have also never seen my wife so angry, saddened, and disgusted as that night. I have never been on a bus ride as quiet and morbid as the one back to the hotel. And, I still get nightmares from that game. Because of all that, it's very difficult for me to forget and forgive. Not when you've been so permanently scarred.

Bus ride...the real killer was the Akron championship game with that last second TD pass in the end zone that beat us...No idea why we had only one DB in the end zone... it was a realy hail mary that crushed us in Detroit...

Yet another nightmare you brought up. I did not take a bus for that one. I wanted to end my life in my car, however. Detroit sure has been unkind to us!

We did win there last year though.

And the Huskies will continue to win there for many years. COGS
I am haunted by the Akron game big time, even after all these years. I'll never forget my neutral friend pointing out the coverage at the end and saying "this is not good". I saw the play develop at the game before my eyes. Ouch! I bought a MACC t-shirt that night that I still cannot wear. Just brutal. Winning last year was just awesome and got rid of allot of frustration. Certain games just stick with me... Kansas last year, Iowa this year, Iowa State & Northwestern games just always linger in a negative way. We care because we are fans. I am dealing with Cards now and their collapse vs Giants. A gut buster.
I will never forget that MACC in 2005, I turned down sexual pleasure because of that game.

Seems we go through it a lot more than most. The Miami game 2 years ago was a tuff tuff tuff bus ride home. I think everyone was in shock for hours.

When I woke up the next morning, I was strangling my pillow.
At the Miami game, I remember turning to my brother-in-law (who's not a Huskie Fan, but was cheering for us) when Miami converted on that fourth down play and saying "this is what it's like to be a Huskie Fan". From extreme high of being on the verge of a championship, to the extreme low of a crushing defeat.
That was likely the worst ballbuster I ever experienced firsthand as a Huskie football fan...until then the last second loss to UT in HS and the infamous thirds and long....

My kids started crying at the game when they converted on 4th down. It sucked. I had to be the dad when all I wanted to do was cry, too.

Jerry Kill's a good man who did a lot more good for NIU than bad... But, yeah, f^*k Jerry Kill for that suckass night in Detroit.

Obviously, I was very upset. But I have never seen my wife more upset. She wanted to give up on going to Huskie games - all games, regular and post season. I gave in on the post season games, but we still go to the regular season games. Just too much stress. A day after watching the 2011 MAC Championship game on TV, I had to take my wife to the hospital with chest pains. It may get to the point where we no longer watch these games on TV! Man, it's tough to be a Huskie fan!
THose two post season Detroit losses really hurt very badly.
Hopefully we can win another one in Detroit to make it even.
If we beat Toledo we probably will not face Ohio and get a chance
to maybe defeat one of those teams.
