In 2006, Rice had a new coach who took over their losing program (sound familiar?). They started the season 1-5. In game 7, they played UAB at home and won in one of the most bizarre endings ever (I don't want to talk about it 03-banghead).

But, they went on to run the table to finish 7-5 and go to a bowl.

Can we do such a thing this year?

Rice Schedule 2006
Sure can. GO BLAZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vanilla Rice Rice baby.

Yes
Ah, the Guyette interception fumble Rice TD play.

Almost as bad as the 2005 Houston homecoming cluster penalty hail Mary.
Well, as much as I beat the drum about teams very rarely being successful when doing an almost wholesale replacement of the "big uglies", on both sides of the ball, there is a lot of history to suggest that those "very young" teams don't come on gradually but rather like a light switch. When it turns on? We'll see...

I think you meant Guyton interception fumble. Rice scored the TD a few plays later.

And in 2005, the homecoming opponent was SMU. 2005 was my first season as a diehard fan.
I changed the facts to keep myself from crying again.
I'm not giving up on these guys. A win on Saturday could be a great spark. I'll be out there early Saturday.
Didn't realize it was a 6 pm game.

Doesn't matter, but I was getting used to the 2 pm games.
USM started like 1-5 in the year they put up 70 on us.

not to remind everyone of that too.
I actually didn't get to watch that game. I believe I'd worked Talladega that Saturday with the chapter and went to pass out in my room at the fraternity house that afternoon/evening when we got back. I woke up and saw that score in disbelief.

Yep. They started out 2-6 and then won their last four regular-season games, starting with the shellacking of UAB, to become bowl-eligible. Then they beat Troy in the New Orleans bowl to finish 7-6.
So you're saying there's a chance...
Did we give in after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!

And even if we win, if we win, HAH! Even if we win! Even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money! It just doesn't matter if we win or we lose. IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!
IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER...
