"I understand why Akron is doing it," OSU athletic director Gene Smith said. "They're trying to do it to enhance their atmosphere. We just don't need to do that."

Ouch. THat comment was uncalled for and really is kind of classless. No wonder most Ohio MAC fans can't stand O$U. I can understand it if he said for revenue reasons but for atmosphere? Come on.

I thought NIU has a policy not to sell beer in the Stadium at football games or Convo basketball games. So we are wasting our time wishing for this.

Because policies change, especially as people get fired...
Selling atleast beer and wine at the convo would make sense. They already have served beer and wine at many concerts and you can get liquor in the sky box.
pro teams have corresponding security at each section to account for any unruliness due to alcohol. as long as there were a commitment to keep the place safe and to squash any potential unruliness, then this would probably be good for revenue and atmosphere.

Toledo sells it in their luxury suites. I think we have about 50 suites. Do you guys have plans to add suites?
We are not going to sell booze in the general stands with the current administration. Not sure if its President Peters, AD Compher or the BOT but its not happening.

It is however acceptable in the Skybox...to bad it only seats 114 people. I bet some on here would be willing to pay much more per seat to drink some booze while watching the game live...and others that don't want to drink would appreciate it not being in the main stands to keep the family friendly atmosphere on the West side.
I always thought you could sell beer at an off campus stadium. Maybe that's not the case.

What's luxury in Toledo? Toilet paper in the bathroom?

No. Just more touchdowns on your "defense."

Wow! 03-lmfao
I thought the NCAA banned this at all NCAA sanctioned games. I remember Camp Randall being the last stadium to go dry. So, this is no longer the case I take it?
We do not need beer at athletic events. People are already drunk from drinking for 5 hours before the game. And you want to add 3 more hours of drinking to that? Many people drink during the game, anyway, as they sit in the parking lots.

If they want to drink they can pay $250 (club) to $500 (suite) per seat per game in a new skybox.

Haven't been in the skybox for a couple of years but booze has never been permitted. When did this change?

The point is to get people in the stadium. Instead of coming in 10 minutes after kickoff, or heading out at half to drink and not coming back, the schools are cool about tailgating, but don't allow drinking in the lots during the game. Instead you head in for kickoff and get a bracelet that allows for the purchase of 2 or 3 16 ounce beers. A few extra bucks for the school and people are in the stadium for kickoff (and they don't leave during the 3rd because they haven't finished their beer yet).

Knowing our fans, they will stay in the lots to drink because it's cheaper.
