These rankings may surprise big east fans who are excited by having 3 teams in the top 25, but two things to bear in mind:

1) conference strenghth includes all teams not just the best ones, and the big east's bottom 3-4 are really bad.

2) the voters are probably over-rating teams like UofL and Rutgers by looking at their unbeaten record. But, their schedule strengths are weak. I am not sure the Big East has any noteworthy OOC wins at all this year.

E.g., Sagarin has cincy at 28, rutgers at 33, and UofL is at 43, all far below their AP rankings.

One point-
The Sagarin ratings being used for conference comparison are not the ratings used for the BCS. Rutgers and Cincy are higher than for instance any ACC school right now(16 and 19 to FSU 23). As we get into conference play- them playing each other will really move them up rapidly.

Actually I think that winning on the road against Virginia Tech is an impressive victory. No matter how bad their record ends up being this year, they're still a very talented team and have one of the best coaches in the country.

for the polls yes I'd agree. But for the computers, it could be beating a 6-6 team.

Objectively, i just do not see how beating a 2-3 VT team, at a neutral site, is impressive. And that may be the best OOC win the conference has.

I guess if you're only impressed by wins over top-10 teams, you are correct. But no one in the country has any OOC wins like that. Our win over Va Tech is undoubtedly one of the 10 best OOC wins by any team in the nation so far, and is more likely around #5.

By the way, the Colley Ranking has UL @ 17, UC @ 21, and Rutgers @ 23. That's based on actual game results, and it is used in the BCS. This is before last weekend's games (so UC and Rutgers will probably move up).

The bottom of the Big East is really bad? No team in the Big East is worse than Indiana, Washington State, Wake Forest, or Kansas.

The bottom of the Big East is really bad? No team in the Big East is worse than Indiana, Washington State, Wake Forest, or Kansas.

USF is really bad.

Actually I think that winning on the road against Virginia Tech is an impressive victory. No matter how bad their record ends up being this year, they're still a very talented team and have one of the best coaches in the country.

Colley had VT ranked #67 before their loss to UNC so i seriously doubt that s the #5 OOC win this year, and Sagarin says all the unbeaten Big East schools have played dismal schedules. Seems pretty clear cut why BE is ranked 6th.

USF is really bad.

USF is 71st.
5 ACC teams worse
3 BE teams worse
2 B10 teams worse
1 B12 team worse
2 P12 teams worse
1 SEC team worse

so 14 AQ teams worse than USF. There are 68 teams, so USF is better than about 20% of the AQ teams. That's not what you woudl call really bad.

Ok, point taken. But it also looks like 4 big east teams are far down the AQ list.
There's 8 AQ teams worse than the worst Big East school.

one way 27, the way the BCS uses, 15. Right now, Big East has better BCS rating team in Sagarin than any ACC or eligible Big Ten school.

I understand it's just Sagarin, but you don't believe a single team in the BE is better than FSU or Ohio St. do you?
