UAB came close to blocking the first punt on this video, got the second one.... We should be able to block a punt.

Their running backs are scary.

Their QB weighs close to 250, keep him in the pocket and make your tackle attempts count, he's more inclined to run than he is to pass, punish him when he does. Their starting tailback weighs 260 and runs like a deer, hitting him high is only going to tickle him, go low, legally, that is, the guy's a freaking horse. If it's a short yardage situation, he's getting the ball 4 times out of 5. Make them pass more than run, and you got a shot, don't back down, and their secondary can be exploited, especially on deep passes. On defense , the Herd needs to be very aware of that quick WR screen play, Tulsa ran that crap ad nauseum on the Blazers, it's either their bread and butter or a set up for the running game, which is in your face manu-e-manu, let's see who the better man is kind of football. Be smart, be physical. UAB had them by the throat and let them off the hook. Now, their pass rush is freakin' ferocious, and running on them is pretty darn difficult, their LB's are exceptional. Don't turn the ball over, they're like children on Xmas Eve if you make a mistake, they're going to seize the moment, of the 49 points they scored on UAB, 21 of them came from mental error/turnovers on the Blazers part.

Actually Tulsa has two guys around 250 lbs. that run the ball just depends where on the field it is.

I noticed in the UAB game that Singleton (#8) usually gets the ball most on short yardage situations, and delivered more times than not. There was another back, Willie Carter (#34), he was killing us softly with his song, too. Very talented bunch, and quite resilient. I knew that the Blazers would have had to play a near flawless game against them to beat them, because they don't quit, I saw that in the Fresno State game, when they were down 13 or more early at home. Last week's game was one of the more entertaining matchups I've seen all year to date, even though the outcome was not was I hoped for. I thought both teams, in spite of their obviously different W-L records, represented Conference USA quite well. This upcoming game should be no different.

Tulsa's run game is our bread and butter - we have converted from the Todd Graham pass first think later system to Bill Blankenship's run first offense. So far it's been a good transition - if only we had consistent QB play, there's no telling how good we could be.

UAB will continue to improve under McGee, he's a great coach. I say give it another couple of years and you guys will be contending in the East (if not sooner).

Thank you so much...That means a great deal to hear from fans of other programs. I'd very much like to see Conference USA Football have an impacting influence on the college football landscape. And as for your QB, he'll be fine, he's an emerging great once he gets more prolific in the passing department, & he will.
