I cannot be objective about Q Lee, one of stAte's best 3 or 4 defenders, being suspended by Benson.
So what do you non-WKU guys think?
Does Q Lee deserve to be suspended for the WKU game per the mandatory review that Benson did? Did he lead with the crown of his helmet with intent?
Here are the rules, per ArkStfan:
Targeting/Initiating Contact With the Crown of the Helmet
ARTICLE 3. No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with
the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 9-6.)
Defenseless Player: Contact to Head or Neck Area
ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area
of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder. When
in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6).

Nope...suspension was upheld.

Yes. No attempt to tackle, just tried to hit with the crown.
I wouldn't say he was defenseless but Article 3 was clearly violated.
Yes. He lead with his head and his head actually followed him down and he ended up hitting him above the shoulders. It looked like he had every intention of leading in with his helmet. Could have been very dangerous. Sorry Red Wolves he deserves to sit out.

Thats what I tried to explain to them. I understand their whole point that it was not intentional, but the NCAA is cracking down on this rule.
Instead I got accused of being a mouthpiece for the league office, beause I defended Karl Benson, who apparently according to our fanbase colluded with Willie Taggert to make sure an ASU player was suspended for the game for no reason at all.

He clearly went in helmet first and made helmet-to-helmet contact. I'm only 90% sure it was intentional as both players were flying low altitude there toward the end, but you have to call it. And if you call it, I guess the game out is mandatory.

Malzahn said in an interview today that the head of officials told him Sunday that Lee would not be suspended, but that Benson overruled him and made the suspension.

Honestly, I think it was helmet to helmet, and I understand the ruling. If the league was willing to suspend Justin Hamilton of the Cajuns after the Troy game for literally just saying something, I can see them suspend someone for a hit like this.
To make matter worse, it was the QB performing what appeared to be a slide to avoid contact. Don't know if it's a rule but initiating contact with a QB attempting to down the ball always seems to get extra scrutiny. This is certainly not a new situation.
There are two issues.
1. Did he lead with the crown of his helmet.
Answer to that is yes. Game official flagged the play. No one disagrees with that at least no one I've seen
2. Is it flagrant and therefore warranting a suspension?
Game official says no because there was no ejection. Supervisor of officials apparently said no as well per Malzahn. So the conference's man on the field says no disqualification. The man watching every Sub Belt game film and grading performance says no disqualification. The commissioner over-ruled the on scene official and supervisor of officials to rule it a flagrant act and a suspension

That is right and that is why the Head of Officials said what he said. You have to be insane to think that the hit warranted an ejection or suspension.
