Quote:Fifty-five percent of small business owners and manufacturers would not have started their businesses in today’s economy, according to a new poll that also reports 69 percent say President Obama’s regulatory policies have hurt their businesses.

Quote:Here are the key findings in the poll, as highlighted by NAM:

67 percent say there is too much uncertainty in the market today to expand, grow or hire new workers.

69 percent of small business owners and manufacturers say President Obama’s Executive Branch and regulatory policies have hurt American small businesses and manufacturers.

55 percent say they would not start a business today given what they know now and in the current environment.

54 percent say other countries like China and India are more supportive of their small businesses and manufacturers than the United States.

Quote:Those statistics suggest that even Democratic and independent small business owners criticized Obama, because only 46 percent of poll participants identified as Republicans, per Roll Call.

So what. They didn't build anything. Greedy business owners.
Duh...here's your answer:

Quote:Forty-six percent of the respondents identified as Republicans, 16 percent as independent and 36 percent as Democrat

They oversampled Republicans. You just can't trust that poll! 03-wink

Ummm, are you saying those percentages are not representative of small business owners?

But assume you are correct for the moment and see how the various comments apply ONLY to the 54% of the sample not republican (further assuming, probably reasonably so, that all 46% of the republicans are in the majority on each issue):

At least 39% (21%/54%) say there is too much uncertainty in the market today to expand, grow or hire new workers.

At least 40% (23%/54%) of small business owners and manufacturers say President Obama’s Executive Branch and regulatory policies have hurt American small businesses and manufacturers.

At least 17% (9%/54%) say they would not start a business today given what they know now and in the current environment.

At least 15% (8%/54%) say other countries like China and India are more supportive of their small businesses and manufacturers than the United States.

If 40% of ALL small business people think it's a bad time to grow or expand, and that Obama has hurt small businesses, those are pretty significant findings. And here, it's obviously more than that.
No Owl. Just poking at Niner.

But I did read through the questions. They were clearly written to get the responses they wanted...like most polls of this type. They talk about all these regulations coming out of Washington but never name anything specific. Of course the owners are going to say they don't want them.

They also have a question in there about the "you didn't build that" issue and ask for opinions, yet they don't provide the whole quote in context.

And very interesting was the racial and gender make up. It was 82% white and 67% male.

Lastly, the biggest negative reaction was to the question about Congress where 84% held them responsible for the regulations.
