I would've thought the same prior to Saturday. But I'm not sure what to make of EMU now. My knee-jerk assumption is that MSU was reeling from Notre Dame and peeking ahead to OSU. But EMU can still sneak up on anyone and steal a few games in conference, as it showed last year.
After what I saw in the GB Saturday night, the Rockets being picked preseason to win the west don't mean no thang.

Classic underestimating and looking past an opponent.
I think you made a good point about their QB in another post. I remember years back when a directional Illinois school came in and their QB almost beat us. Tony something or other. I wonder if he ever amounted to anything? 03-wink

Saturday night I was beginning to think we might need to suit Andy Boyd up to see if he could do it one more time.

Tony something vs UT
Really? The Tony Romo

414 yards. Man! Good find SB.

I remember that game well...was shocked to see our team struggle and be down at the half. That Tony something almost beat us, good thing we had Taylor!

OT - A fair amount of Cincinnati fans will be traveling up to Toledo for the October game...there is a new post on the UC board asking about places to go, tailgate options / things to do in Toledo. Cincinnati has taken 10K to Miami, 15K to Pitt...I bet there will be close to 5K of UC fans in the Glass Bowl. As a Bearcat and Rocket fan, this has been a game I have been looking forward to all year long!
Last I heard is that Carder is "questionable" for the Toledo game. Anyone heard any further updates? Even if he plays, I doubt if his hand will be 100%.

current thread on the Stampede has some up to date info.
Rockets rank 119 out of 124 in total defense. The last QB UT played against threw for more yards against the Rockets than he did any of the three FCS teams he played before the Rockets. Carder would probably play even if his running back had to push him around on the field in a wheelchair. :-)

Carder is probably afraid number 2 on the depth chart is going to put something into his food. Good thing we don't play Old Dominion. Over 700 yds passing last week!
It sure sounds like Carder is out for this week and possibly more. I would say the chances that he plays is less than 40%
They won't release it until they have too. The less we know, the better it is for WMU. The same thing goes for if FLU can play. I am almost positive he will, but if he was badly injured...no one would know until game day.
I guess WMU's back-up QB went with the voodoo doll instead of the poison.

"Van Tubbergen started the Broncos' season-finale against Akron, his first-career start, and completed 19-of-20 passes for 252 yards and six touchdowns."

sigh

LOL should be interesting!
If I remember correctly, the game against Eastern Illinois was the home opener after we went to Happy Valley and knocked off Penn State 20-6. Then we smoked Weber State in the home opener before facing an unheard of Tony Romo in the Glass Bowl. The following week we went to Western and lost our only game of the season with an ailing Bolden at QB who was unable to run the ball. That pretty much killed our chances.

As I recall, the lack of carries for Chester Taylor & Antwan McCray is what cost the Rockets that WMU game. Too many pass attempts in what was an ineffective passing game that game.

But you are correct. Big Win at Penn St, Blow out of Weber St, with some guy who ran his mouth saying how he could care less that Toledo beat Penn St and that Weber St was going to beat the Rockets in the Glass Bowl, nailbiter against EIU, then the dismal performance at WMU. 10-1 team that didn't go to a bowl game.
