Have the Huskies ever won a "big" game like this with such a low level of excitement? The fans, the posters, the team. Everyone either:

A) expected a W vs a patty cake, or
B) lots of W's and very close L's over the years has diluted our excitement level.

A decade ago fans would have stormed the fields and carried the goal posts to the lagoon with a W over a Big Twelve team at home. And NIU would have had 27,000 fans in the seats.

I think I can pinpoint the change to where, with a few exception, NIU now expect to win. And that seismic change was at Minnesota in 2010. The first "big" game NIU was really expected to, and did, win. And now there is less excitement when NIU win against BCS team, because NIU is a good, reputable team.

It's almost like NIU football is the victim of it's own success. "Oh, you SHOULD have beat Kansas" instead of "Wow, you hosted and beat a Big Twelve team in DeKalb."

Oh how the times have changed since 0-23. NIU fans have it sooooo good nowadays

(If the football team loses to Toledo, all is for naught. BEAT TOLEDO)

I go back to the days when NIU would get pounded and give up 60 to 70 points when playing BCS level teams. We are now better than some of them and can compete with most of them.

Been a good day for the entire conference. Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and NIU beat teams from the Big Ten, Big East, and Big 12 respectively.
