Actually it's up for the third straight month

But Maxi told us everything was great in IL! He told us raising taxes by 7 billion was the greatest move ever!! How is this possible?

Quote:State officials say unemployment across Illinois again increased in August, hitting 9.1 percent.

The jump from July's 8.9 percent unemployment rate was the third straight increase after nine months of declines.

So let's see. Their debt is skyrocketing in spite of raising taxes by 7 billion. Their unemployment rate continues rise and their credit rating was downgraded, again, not too long ago.

Is it any wonder a guy like Maxi lives in a liberal utopia like this?
Yes...all fiscal policy should be judged on 3 months of data.
I see you missed the part where their deficit has continued to increase and their credit rating was downgraded.

Pesky things like that I know are annoying.
Oh yea, things are going great here.
You missed this Niner

(And Meade is a Dem)

So I'm sure things will get better ;-)

Indeed. The pension mess, which the 7 billion tax hike was supposed to help shore up, is the main reason their credit was downgraded.

What a sh!thole that state is. Perfect for Maxi.
Not good but our economic growth and GDP per capita are still strong, and debt is only 20% of GDP.
Yep, Illinois is in great shape.

Quote:Illinois now has some $8 billion in current debts outstanding and taxpayers are on the hook for more than $200 billion in unfunded retirement costs for government workers. By some estimates, the system could be the first in the nation to go broke, as early as 2018.

Don't worry though. They have a plan.

Quote:As a political matter, public unions are pursuing a version of the GM strategy: Never make a concession at the state level, figuring that if things get really bad the federal government will have no political choice but to bail out the pensions if not the entire state. Mr. Quinn made that official by pointing out in his budget proposal that "significant long-term improvements" in the state pension debt will come from "seeking a federal guarantee of the debt."

20%??? I can't find that number any where I look.
The number is in Max's head. Along with all the other assorted far left nonsense.

Yep. Obama has set the terms. Unions know as long as he's in office they will be bailed out. If he's reelected expect Illinois, California and other Union extorted states to suddenly need a bailout.
I got it off this what I assume is a right wing scare site:

Maxi is wrapped tighter than a airline sandwich.
Right after California, Illinois totally deserves to implode economically.
Liberal policies are driving businesses out of Illinois & California for states run by conservatives. This fact is only shocking to liberals.

Liberals ruin anything they touch.

Each is not mutually exclusive.

And California has more people on welfare than any other state by a substantial margin.

The Top 10 in welfare by % population are:

1. California
2. Maine
3. Tennessee
4. Massachusetts
5. Vermont
6. DC
7. New York
8. Minnesota
9. Washington
10(tie) New Mexico, Indiana

By my count that is 9 out of the top 10 being blue states.

Try again.

People are fleeing liberal California for conservative Texas en masse. This is a reversal of the dust bowl migration.

High taxes and goofy liberal laws run people off, and California is filled with loons like Pelosi. She has some serious mental flaws.

Yes, this seems to be something Memphis alumni don't understand...people can move.

That's why when Memphis04 (or whatever his name was) said the same things I compared it to measuring AC voltage w/ a DC meter. Not real bright these memphis commentators.

Is this federal or state welfare? Because I know that those same states pay far more into the federal government than they receive, which really is the main issue. If california wants to pay for every citizen to have a porshe and considers it part of their state welfare, more power to them if they aren't taking funds from other states to do this.
