Nice article by Tony Paul which highlights the Tigers and Phillies.

The Tigers were supposed to out slug everyone with Cabrera and Fielder and other nice players like all stars Perralta, Avila, etc.

Pitching was supposed to be the weak spot.

So what happens, in recent weeks the bats go silent and the pitching becomes top notch.

JV isn't even the most effective pitcher on the staff. It could be either Scherzer or Fister.

Scherzer will get Cy Young consideration.

"The success of Detroit's pitchers isn't out of the blue, of course. The Tigers set a franchise record for strikeouts in 2012, and their ERA since Aug. 14 is 2.90 and opposing average is .231. The rotation, particularly, has been impressive, with 15 quality starts in the last 21 games."

What?

And the Phillies were laid for dead and now behind Halladay, Lee and Hamels they are rolling.

What this tells us, at least about pro sports, is that with long season there can be unbelievable changes during the season and trying to predict October in April or May can be perilous.

Will EMU FB start to roll in October?
The Tigers haven't been able to go on an extended run and leave the White Sox behind. They've only been in first place 37 days, compared to 113 for the White Sox. And that's mainly because of an inconsistent offense that hasn't produced much on the road before this week.

We can also learn that Miguel Cabrera is more likely to steal signs in Chicago than stealing 3rd base : http://www.freep.com/article/20120914/SP...an-Chicago
