-- Uconn is getting votes....still no votes for USF which shocks me

Jackson
I guess the Big East doesn't suck so much after all. Unlike our buddies from C-USA and MWC we have 2 ranked teams.

Too bad both are underranked. Both UofL and WVU are Top 20 ballclubs and USF should be getting some votes at least.

Just remember this is still a very young league.
I like it! I thought WVU would be 26th but they jumped Fresno to sneak in. Too bad the week we get two teams ranked they play each other.

In the AP the Cards are 19th as well. WVU is 26th. This poll doesn't directly count, but its nice to be ranked here as well b/c ESPN now uses this poll for their rankings. That means being in the Top 25 puts your name out there more in the public eye when it comes to every faucet, whether it's score tickers, top25 scoreboards, highlights shown (usually!).
That's nice because the Big East has two top 25 team and another team receiving votes, something that has to happen to put you among the elite conferences. It sucks though because West Virginia and Louisville play each other. If West Virginia beats Louisville though Louisville might stay in the Top 25 and West Virginia would move into the Top 20. And if Louisville beats West Virginia then West Virginia could probably slip back into the Top 25 relatively soon afterwards.
If it's a close West Virginia win, the two schools might just flip-flop positions with the Cardinals remaining in the Top 25. If it's a close Louisville win, the possibility the Mountaineers might work their way back into the Top 25 by winning out the rest of the year is quite strong. A blowout win isn't good, pollwise, either way.
It would have been wonderful if Louisville hadn't sleep walked their way through the S Florida game. They would have been ranked about sixth. West Virginia would still be 25th. A west virginia win would have caused Louisville to slide to about 12th West virginia would have gone up about four or five slots. Win win for BEast. Now just when the conference is making progress, we're going to take a step backwards because the media is going to punish whoever looses. I think we still have a chance to see the two in the top twenty-five by the end of the year.
best case scenario for the BE would be a close WV victory at home - that should maintain 2 teams in the Top 25. But then, any scenario that would mean a WV victory would work for me :)
sleep walked? you got your asses kicked, deal with it.
The way I see it, the loser of the WVU vs. UofL game will drop out of the top 25 unless some teams from other conferences are upset this weekend. However, the BE should not worry because it sets up even bigger matchups including WVU at USF in two weeks and UConn playing at WVU and having UofL at home. It is possible for both WVU and UofL to run the table, but I think the BE race for the championship will be interesting with the champion having at least one or two conference L's.

Mike I think you are taking his post out of context. He clearly didn't mean any disrespect to USF. You guys killed us nobody is denying that, he is just simplying saying that UofL just didn't show up for that game. This is not a jab at USF you guys played flawless. If you think that is the way we play week in and week out then you are sadly mistaken. I showed USF all the love in the world in that game, everybody i know has done the same. That game was actually a wake up call for this team and they are play MUCH better, the players even admitted that they were complacent in that game. I realize that North Carolina was better than the score indicated if we played them 10 times the score would be much more closer than it was sat. I think some of your fellow fans need to come down just a tad, some of your fans act as if that is the team that shows up for us every week. We laid an egg it wasn't because we couldn't move the ball it was because of your defense and because our players played with no heart. Again Congratulations on kicking our asses, i'm sure you probably won't be the only ones to do that. That was the worst loss in this programs history but it was also a humbling experience, our players haven't looked back.

Why throw C-USA and MWC into this discussion?

Teams in those leagues that lose one game this early are pretty much guaranteed to drop out of the polls.

Sad thing is the team that loses the WVU/UofL game Saturday will likely drop out of the top 25.

You should go and read your Rivals board. I've seen numerous posts about how this game was such a fluke, how USF doesn't deserve to get votes for the top 25, etc.

In college football there is no such thing as a fluke, it's just is that the opposing team on the other sideline or the intermural flag football team

No school in the league this year would be ranked at 3-2. It's not UofL fans, its the national media. They don't know what to think of us or you guys. Not just in polls, but in columns on ESPN, CFN.com, etc. They are clearly waiting to see another game or two from the Bulls. Same thing with UofL.
I would think Petrino might have at least slipped USF in at #25. That's a person who saw our team with his own eyes, and it has nothing to do with the national media.

It's taken a couple of weeks, but the "memory" of many Louisville fans is rapidly fading with respect to our game. Yes, right after the game, many folks were quite complimentary. Here we are a couple of weeks later and it's "Louisville sleep walked through that game - USF's win was a fluke..." How many weeks will it be before we poisoned the water to make your players sick, stole the signals from your offensive coordinator or used steroids and methamphetamines to gain a competitive edge? Oh, wait, that last sentence has actually been proposed by at least one Louisville fan...

Petrino could have voted you 25th. Then again, if he honestly doesn't believe you are 25th best then I guess he was being honest. That is not a slam. Honestly, no one quite knows anything for sure about either of our teams. Neither has done anything on the road. UofL beat 1 lower team and then all the rest are losses. 1 win, no matter how dominant, is going to always ensure a Top 25 ranking. I disagree and say it is a national thing. It is not just that you can draw a circle around the city of Louisville and then the entire nation outside our city is giving respect. That's shown by zero votes in the Coaches and AP poll. I said it on the Rivals board, why is their not a 24th or 25th place vote from a FL writer in the AP?

As for the stupid comments, every school has a handful of clueless fans. As for a comment like "fluke", whether its nice or not the rest of the season for USF AND UofL will determine whether it starts being used every time the game is discussed or never again. Extreme examples of this:

1)
USF goes 9-2, wins a BCS game to go 10-2 (or even plays a BCS game close)
UofL loses a few more, and goes 8-3 or worse

Everyone will look back in the media and fans, and say, "Wow, that game really was the start of the Bulls showing just how good they are."

2)
USF has a tough time winning NE road games later in the year and goes 6-5
UofL goes 10-1 and wins or is close to winning a BCS Bowl

-Like it or not, fair or not, it will be called a fluke

Right now, I'm in the middle. I agree that some UofL fans aren't giving the Bulls enough respect, thinking they may only win 1 of 4 BE road games or such. While you are 0-2 on the road, I see you aren't playing another team on the road even close to PSU or Miami. I right now don't see anyone going 7-0 in the BE but I won't be shocked if you go 8-3. If I had to guess, I'd maybe say 7-4.

One last thing, while I don't speak for our Rivals board, I get the impression that when the word fluke has been used, it is used for the manner/margin of victory, not just that USF beat us. I'm not saying if UofL goes down to Tampa this Saturday we win for sure by any means. But I will readily admit that I am of the opinion personally that if we played every week of the season against each other, we wouldn't lose by anywhere close to 31 again. I say that b/c while you spanked us, UofL contributed mightly with stupid penalties, turnovers we don't normally make, etc. If most Bull fans don't agree with this last paragraph then I will just have to agree to disagree right now!
i agree with your post and i'm not annointing usf a top 25 team unless they show they can consistently win on the road and if they can develop a consistent passing game. however by beating louisville we raised the bar for our program, i would've been satisfied before the season to just make it to a bowl game. however now that we've proved this team can play with the best, anything less than 8-3 would be a dissapointment, and it would be a big hit against the conference if we don't get that record.

i've always maintained that louisville is the best all round team in the big east and i predicted them running the table, but they underestimated usf and got humiliated so far they've responded well.

usf is very young and our passing offense is a quandry (with our receivers there's not way pj should be passing for 80 yards per game). we've still yet to play our best game, but when it comes together usf will be scary, i've seen each team in the big east play and albeit young and inexperienced we have just as much talent as any team in the league and we're defintely the fastest (sorry west va).
What are you apologizing for...I hope you have the fastest team...if not it would be an embarrassment to your recruiting...duh you are in Florida...last time I checked there is some talent in that state.
