I have been a vocal critic of our series with Arkansas that has been played there for many years. I think it was 1952 or so the last time Arky visited Tulsa. For that reason alone, I think we should not continue this "madness".
However, there is a scenario that I could support that would continue the series. Here is the contract I'd submit as acceptable to the University of Tulsa.
A 6 year contract with the following stipulations:
1. The game shall be played in Little Rock every year, not Fville.
2. Split officiating crews or alternating officials between the SEC and CUSA.
3. The same money guarantee that TU receives in Fville.
Anyone think Arkansas would give up their advantages? Here is why they might. Right now they raid Tulsa and Oklahoma for some pretty valuable recruits. That would be damaged if they don't have some kind of presence in this state.
Little Rock is almost 200 miles from Fville. Tulsa is about 250 from Little Rock. IMO we'd travel about as many fans to War Memorial for an Arky game as Fville, but there'd be 15-20 thousand less Arky fans (Razorback has a cap of 70,000 and WM about 53,000)and an atmosphere that would be less biased than in Fville.
That could be publicised as a "neutral" site of sorts and could be a win for both programs IMO. We could keep a foothold in Arkansas and increase our support in Eastern Oklahoma. Arkansas, who has annual games in LR would increase their presence in our state.
To me, the kind of contracts we should sign should be for more than just money.
Try that for 6 years and if it works, fine. If not, look elsewhere.
OU and Texas meet annually in Dallas, why not do our long time series with Arkansas like that one? IMO
