Quote:A federal court on Thursday blocked a controversial new voter ID law in Texas, ruling that the state failed to show that the law would not harm the voting rights of minorities.

A solution in search of a problem.
So does someone have to prove that it would hurt the voting rights of minorities?

The mere fact that Democrats don't want people to prove who they are before voting shows you that they want to steal elections. There is no other way to look at it. It also shows you what they think of minorities; that they're all extremely stupid and incapable of obtaining a generic document like an identification.

Bunch of racist f'n thieves. Revolution breaks off up in this mofo, I'm gonna have fun.

I'm surprised that conservatives are so supportive of increased voter laws.

Any new law should require a reason.
Any new law that limits a constitutional right should require a damn good reason.

If fraudulent voting is a major problem that warrants new legislation, it should be easy to make the case.

Living in/around Memphis I have always been for some sort of ID system. Granted I am only 28 but ever since I have paid attention to news casts (10 years or so) I can't tell you how many local elections have all sorts of cases of people voting multiple times, dogs or cats voting, and dead people voting. And these are just the ones that are caught. What I'd like to see happen is something like a scanner that they can use on your DL (barcode and all) or a state issued election type ID. I've just always thought that would be a good idea. Maybe not practical though.

How else do you propose identifying someone? Facial hair? Ear shape? Gang signs?

Existing laws need enforcement. It's perjury to illegally register to vote. It's a 3rd degree felony to actually vote fraudulently in an election. Each count is punishable. Each illegal vote punishable. If 20 candidates are on the ballot that's 20 counts. However there is no oversight, in this area, whatsoever over the process that protects that most fundamental right.
I have no problem with requiring photo IDs to vote as long as they are completely free. No one should have to pay even a single dollar to vote.

Just tell'em they can't get their welfare without a photo ID and you'll be set.

This has not a DAMN thing to do with a photo I.D. All these idiots have I.D.'s for beer, cigs, cashing checks, driving, etc. This is about them not being able to walk in, tell the poll worker some name, any name, and vote over and over. Dims can't win without that except in the bluest of the blue districts.
i had to show my photo ID last time i voted

whoopde freakin do da
I remember when American citizenship used to mean something. These days anyone can come here and call themselves American.

Keep on believing that. We know that the Republican party has a history of saying cutting the voter rolls benefits the Republican party.

Cutting illegal voters from the roles does help the RNC. Big surprise. Thief.

Anyone can be American. It's not some exclusive club that you have to be born into.

If they go through the process. The ones that won't, don't get to vote. Period.

I realize you Progs are desperately trying to get more and more illegals and people named Mickey Mouse on the voting roles so you can't f*ck over the rest of the REAL Americans, which are supposed to be your compatriots, but it's not gonna work. You're gonna push too f*cking hard and you're not going to like the result.

American and American Citizen are two versions of the same thing.

That's a great idea to "Back Door" --Pass a State Law that says you have to have a photo ID to apply for any Medicaid, Unemployment, AFDC, S-CHIPS etc. Programs that are administered by a State.

Then a year later come back with the Voter ID law. States could say that most of the minorities already have an ID, therefore no discriminatory intent.

Feds couldnt object then.
