Quote:Schnellenberger also talked about Florida Atlantic's athletic future, which he sees eventually pointing toward the Big East.

Last October, FAU opened a 30,000-seat stadium on its Boca Raton campus but was passed over during conference realignment when Conference USA chose instead to add Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, North Texas and Texas-San Antonio beginning in 2013.

FAU, which finished 1-11 last season, remains in the Sun Belt for now.

"This is the hottest thing going.," Schnellenberger said. "We've got the best stadium in America, and we're enlarging to 65,000 when we get into the Big East Conference."

Is the Big East really where he sees FAU eventually landing?
"Sure it is, where else?" he said. "That's been our goal since the beginning.

In case this gets moved because it makes the school of a board administrator look bad, you can go to regular board on BBS for the Big East and Conference USA to discuss it.....

I have no problem with a coach/ex-coach talking up their school. Go head' ole Schnelly.
I've commented on the othe threads already but I can say it again here.

I kind of wish Schnelly would of kept his mouth shut on this one. I admire and respect him for dreaming big, but FAU is NOT in a position to be dictating where it should go.

I want to be in a confrence with another Florida school to help out with travel and Fan Base growth. Whether thats CUSA or Big East would be fine with me. The SBC is a good home as well, were just on an island here.
And people at the BE board agree. Save the smack talk for November buddy. You're traveling to Duke and UCF soon. One step at a time, sport.
How is that smack talk? I posted a link to an article by USA Today without commentary (as I did with the other article from the Palm Beach Post). Do you think USA Today and the Palm Beach Post are smack talking FAU?
He also said we would compete for the national championship in 10 years of starting. So we are not in the big east yet and haven't won the championship yet, but by god he did amazing things here...

started the program
by year 3 ranked 4th in the FCS and quarter finals of playoffs
moved to FBS
won conference championship by year 7
fastest upstart program to win championship and bowl game
another bowl win year 8 (2 consecutive bowl wins.. FASTEST)
And new on-campus stadium last year
And are 8-2 against FIU

far better accolades then FIU

Yeah, HS is a dreamer, but if you don't dream you die.
So I don't have a problem in him saying that, so you can suck it!
GO OWLS! 02-13-banana
I think it's a case of touchy feelings. Like, it's okay for me to talk bad about my family, but so help me God if somebody else talks about my family, fhit will hit the san. Personally, I wouldn't start a post about FIU having troubles selling tickets, or anything else for that matter. Why? Because I respect FIU and would hope that they would share that respect with FAU. I may comment on a couple things but only if an FIU poster were the ones to bring the subject to the forum. It's a cheap low-blow when somebody from a rival school starts a post for all of the SBC to see concerning low times for ones school. Like I said, win with class and lose with class.
I remember on signing day one year where a signee was quoted as saying "I signed with FAU because Coach Schnellenberger said we'd be in the Big East in two years."

And, it worked for awhile. Those recruits who believed him were a part of two bowl championships.

But, as my friend Parrott said on twitter a little earlier, FAU needs to figure out how to get more than 6000 in the stands Friday before figuring out how to get into the Big East.

getting fans in the seat is easy... WIN!!!

You know how the south florida sports community is, professional or college, they like a winner. Dolphins, Marlins, NHL Panthers, UM, FAU or FIU... you win, the fans will come.

Truth, but as Pat Chun said FAU cant wait for that to happen either. They need to maximize the marketing now and get a plan in place to grow the program that way so that when the team starts to perform again the growth can compound.
