Actually mega is an understatement. The thing is HUGE! It was funded by FedEx as a gift to the UM and cost $2.5 M. Construction began in June and was just completed this weekend. They still have to put speaker covers on but aside from that, it's complete and will debut on September 1 for our home opener against Tennessee-Martin.
Below is a couple of pics of our old "jumbotron" which most called the minitron.
Btw, the stadium has gone through a makeover this summer as part of a 2-phase renovation. The stadium was given a new paint job for both exterior and interior, new first class field turf that is the same as the St Louis Rams use, new concession stands including a stadium bar with flat screen TV monitors were installed, and new stadium lighting has been included all in a $9.6 M phase 1 project. Phase 2 will be next summer and will deal with the old outdated press box on the home side and possibly new seating arrangements.

It ranks as the 9th largest in the country, and is only a few inches smaller than the largest one. That thing is about 2/3 the width of the field. And it has state of the art picture and sound quality.
Thanks, Fed Ex!!!!
Did anybody notice the test message they had on the GodzillaTron in the pic in the OP?
That's awesome. Wish Bronco Stadium had something that nice. I hope to make it to the Liberty Bowl one of these days to catch a game and have some good BBQ on Beale Street.
There is an open house tonight at the Liberty Bowl for fans to come check out the renovations, mainly the video board. So hopefully we will have some more pics to post for the fans that aren't going to be coming to Memphis this year.

All of which is very nice, but in my opinion, the single biggest improvement was the addition of "Tiger Lane" (designated tailgate area) a couple of years ago. It is as nice a place to tailgate as anywhere. Once we get a little winning going (and we will), and are playing in the new Big East, there is going to be an incredible atmosphere for Memphis football. I think we can be among the BE leaders in attendance.
They announced tonight at the unveiling of the new video board at the Liberty Bowl Stadium that it's the third largest playback screen in America. I don't know how accurate that claim is but it's what they said, according to multiple witnesses.
