Just found this reading up on New Mexico State's FBS predicament for future years........

NCAA rule 20.9.7.2 stipulates that FBS football teams must schedule 60% of their games against other FBS members. Member institutions must also play five home games against FBS opponents.

We will only have four home games against FBS opponents next year. We also only had four in 2010. Am I reading the rule wrong? Did we get an exemption? Do they not enforce this rule? Seems strange.

Edit: Just found there is an obscure exception that can allow one FCS school based on certain conditions. Either way, it's sad we will use that twice in 4 years.
Very sad and there is absolutely no need for this, if this is not the top priority within the athletic department right now to improve the scheduling, then someone needs to be fired, its ridiculous.
yea right.

It must be so very easy to schedule teams, any idiot could do it. just do it all online .
We can and should do better in our non-conference scheduling. Period.

Noone said it was easy, but it can be done. Anything worth having takes work as the old saying goes. You can't book these teams online like you are saying, it takes work. Toledo and other MAC schools are doing it, are we that far behind those schools leadership wise that we cannot expect the same?
Then say it with your money. If you guys think the non-con is so bad, stop donating until they do something about it.
or donate $500,000-$800,000 so Dawgs can play BCS opponent at home like many of you whine about. Put your money where your mouths are. Of course, this whiney group is the same 100+ people that cannot even raise $1000 collectively for the IPF.

Hey, Mr. 20,000 posts - why don't you tell us what you'd do?

I have. Actually it's more of a test of the marketing and retention strategies of athletics. As you might imagine, it's quite poor.
Welcome to another episode of MORON THEATRE, starring Maddawg and Brad. Unbelievable. In a year when NIU will play Iowa, Kansas and Army as part of its OOC schedule, the Maddawg STILL ***** on Jeff Compher's administration. Maddawg's warped perception is that NIU isn't really a MAC team, and in fact what matters most is the OOC schedule. Of course it doesn't. And of course NIU will, eventually, come up with quality 4 pack of OOC opponents for the 2013 season (a schedule that ALREADY has Iowa and Purdue slated).

Wow...a whole lot of hate for folks just pointing out that the schedule for next year looks pretty poor (and if you actually like the look of that schedule, you have issues). It's a message board, people can discuss without having to "put your money where your mouths are". Give me a break...what a poor argument.

Plus, some of us do donate several thousand dollars to the HASF and NIU. Those mouths should be heard.
The 2013 schedule is not that terrible. The Huskies will play both @ Iowa and Purdue. The only bad game is @ Idaho, which won't ruin the season. Yes, it sucks that they will be FCS or whatever is happening to them, but hopefully they drop the 2014 game with them.
I don't mind the Idaho game, they were FBS at the time and just announced in May that they were moving..

I think the scheduling is decent...
2012 iowa at sf, kansas at hs, army
2013 two big ten teams and a wac team(when the schedule was agreed on)
2014 Wake Forest

Problem is big conferences have schedules set so far in advance that once they are set, it's hard to get in..Look at Iowa, they are book through 2015...

NIU needs to schedule more games with Conf USA, Sunbelt, etc, but when it comes to scheduling a lot of teams want powder puffs, including MAC and Conf USA teams.

Ohio 2013: North Texas(sunbelt) Austin Peay St(FCS) and in 2014 EIU and Idaho
Toledo 2013 Florida(powder puff game for SEC team), Missouri(same thing), and Eastern Washington, 2014: Missouri, Cincinatti and Iowa St...(THE HUGE DIFFERENCE IS THEIR STADIUM( which cost $18 million, a three-story press box, which also includes 40 luxury suites, a 400-seat Stadium Club Further improvements include a video scoreboard in the north endzone in 1999, and the upgrade to a Field Turf playing surface in 2008.) vs HS STADIUM)
Seems that people think we can't get the BCS teams here because either they're scared they may lose, or B the west side sucks.

I think we're all in agreement that the west side needs a renovation for the press and skybox suites along with concessions. The question is how do we get the money to upgrade it? The donors seem pretty tapped out right now. We need some new donors to step up. Any young alumni in the last 5 years may not have a ton of cash, but collectively they can put together some money. I think having the HS championships will help put some pressure on the school since that's going to bring a large press corps. We still need someone to come up with some big money and say here you go! Let's upgrade that West side with some better seating, and some luxury amenities..

I'm a firm beliver anyone will come to HS if we pay them enough. We should be able to get IU, or Purdue, or some big 12 or big east schools here, we just need to make it attractive enough for them. But let's keep winning in the mean time and maybe some people in the western burbs will bring their families and help increase season ticket sales and attendence so we can upgrade those facilities that need it.

lol........what are you even talking about old man?

Oh, and the OOC schedule for 2013 is already set and has been for a long time. Where have you been?
huskiebob, I may be a lot of things but whiny, about sports, isn't one of them.....give me one example of my whining cuz the huskies did or didn't do this or that insofar as game strategy, preparation, coaching or playing.....I see each game as an individual contest to be enjoyed for the good that happens in it...my glass is half full when it comes to athletics since it ain't my job or arse on the line.
