Par for the course... Ohio schedules really weak, wins a few games against the sisters of the poor, says "woo-hoo look at me", then loses to Buffalo and Akron, then AGAIN can never win the MAC Championship and wonders why...

seen this before.

is it any wonder why we OHIO fans hate miami?
Toledo's schedule should be defended when it's called weak. Because UA was good when the 2 for 1 deal was made up. PLUS this is the year UT got the bad crossover games. (sorry Akron, and Buffalo)

I personally think scheduling Cinci, Arizona, a top half MWC team like Wyoming, and a returning 7 win FCS team is a good schedule. It may not be ranked high, but profile wise Toledo continues to do well. It is likely Toledo will play 5 or 6 teams with a record of .500 or better.

Its all in good fun. If Toledo/BG fans, Kent/Akron fans, WMU/CMU fans, and Miami/OU fans were all BFFs the MAC wouldn't be as fun. Why you think the MAC is trying to instigate NIU and Ball with the Bronze Stalk?

agreed! it's hard to tell emotion from a line of text on a screen but my comment was said with a sly smile on my face. see you on October 27! ;-)
Who really cares about SOS in the MAC anyway? It's not like this is the piece of the puzzle to get us into a BCS bowl.

that is very true.

It's an important piece of the puzzle because our projected top 4 teams in the conference all have the 4 easiest SOS.

ie-all 4 teams are set up well to make noise nationally. Considering the MAC wants to leapfrog CUSA, this would be a darn good start.
No "monsters" on our schedule, so I guess I can't blame them for placing our SOS so low. Each of our three BCS opponents are winnable: Minnesota, Illinois and UConn. In fact we've already beaten two of those schools in the past few years. It'll be disappointing if we go 0-fer in that group.

^this

Eastern Illinois, @ Illinois, UCONN, and @ Minnesota

1-3 = people are going to be pretty upset and bracing for the worst in MAC play

2-2 = acceptable, but still the same old same old

3-1 = desirable and tough, but where we should be

4-0 = can't fathom that right now

You do realize that if they are the 4th best teams they play weaker teams, which then leads to a weaker schedule and is why they have the 4 weakest schedules right? They couldn't have the 4 toughest schedules playing a schedule full of lesser teams.
And our (Miami) schedule is too tough really. Miami may be a upper division MAC squad but struggle to reach 7-5 and go to a bowl due to OOC schedule being ridiculously difficult.
All you lucky bastards get to play Toledo but we don't get 2 play ourselves. That's my story. :-)

He is referring the lack of a big time opponent or two in our non conference portion.

Toledo, niu, wmu and Ohio are in the bottom 4 because all of neglected to schedule teams like Wisconsin, Michigan, msu, florida, Missouri, west Virginia, etc.... Penn st is the heavy hitter for ohio, but the SOS against the east negates that.
Usually lists like this are just navel gazing. I'll give Steele credit for noting that these things are usually based on preseason rankings which are mostly based on LAST season. IMO, SOS means nothing until 4th or 5th game - at that point we'll have an idea who is actually looking good vs perceived or "expected to be" good.

Steele actually tried to find various metrics that could be used to more accurately measure how a team measures up in several areas. Gotta give him credit for being creative and digging for more info.

Will be interesting to see how close he is when the season concludes.

They also probably are not rating Penn State as highly either what with recent events.

The great conundrum about SOS. To me in terms of how things work out easy schedules are mostly better IF you can get through them undefeated. If you do that you will mostly find a way up to the top most years lately. Take that Ball State team that was getting ranked highly as they had a fairly easy schedule. Now where easy SOS can burn you is when you are undefeated and then you are being compared to another undefeated non-AQ school. Then it can matter. Other than that it really does not mean much outside of a member measurement contest. Unlike basketball easy SOS won't hurt the conference so much (in fact if it leads to overall better records it could help the perception of the conference by non-experts).
