Sounds like a Fowler look-alike. Lock-down defender. Good rebounder.
I don't like the 58% free throw percentage. He'll need to work hard on that.
Looking at the announcement again, he could end up being the key piece that makes things work this year. First off, he will be a little older than the freshmen, and have two years' experience, if only at the juco level. Second, "tough" is the word everyone uses to describe him, as well as a great on-ball defender. Third, he shot 36% from the arc, and that is with what probably was the typical juco lack of shot discipline. Fourth, he appears to be a good rebounder, which we are going to need with Will in the lineup. Fifth, he should be able to play a couple of positions. I like it.
He obviously has a lot of toughness that reminds our coaches of John Fowler. A John Fowler can help you win a lot of tough games, but is this young man talented enough to beat out some very talented (on paper) newcomers? I don't know. The three position is going to be more competitive this years than any times in our history. You have Taggart, Billings, White, and maybe others, who are more suited for the three position than any other. I guess what it boils down to, you try and put your best five basketball players on the court and take your chances.
And the more you have who are legitimately in the discussion, the better your chances are.
Problem is, there's only one ball in play at one time, and sometimes it's difficult to keep everyone happy when there are good players sitting on the bench, and if you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.
I like the possibilities with this kid. He played HS ball in Brooklyn, so you would assume he is tough.
