Nice find, but this is The Examiner, not the Washington Post.

This is the first time I've seen Turner mentioned outside this forum. With 18 BB teams in 2014 the BE has enough inventory to offer a handful of games to all of these networks. We could flood the sports media and have Big East basketball become synonymous with college basketball.

Just thinking outloud...NBC-(Football & Basketball) with CBS/Turner with Basketball...still very likely will get paid very well and with Turner having even more platforms than ESPN & if I am not mistaken higher ratings...why not.

Next step would be Bowl...if that is taken care of and BCS Distribution in line with the other Former AQ-(from what is being reported it will not be a set price for every league but a formula) than we can move forward.

Yeah, the Turner mention is new to me, too. That's one more potential player in the mix, to help us get max value.

Plus in 2016 Turner will take over on a rotating basis the Final Four portion of the NCAA Tournament.
If we had a deal with say where NBC and Turner get football and NBC, CBS and Turner get basketball then and only then is it worth considering moving completely away from ESPN. Even then I don't love the idea. I do think the Big East needs to get away from ESPN exclusivity though.
Aresco was on Houston radio 1560 this morning and he mentioned NFL network as an interested party for the TV rights. What do you guys think? BigEast football on NFL Network?
Not so much 03-phew

I think you're going to get your wish. I think ESPN will get something, but not all of it. In fact, I don't think anybody is going to get ALL of it in both sports, and maybe not in one sport.

IF Aresco is truly going to maximize our value, you just can't get that much blood out of one turnip.

Really? Wow, that's weird. Hey, if they pay more, who cares, as long as they don't get all of it? I guess I could see them taking a piece of the football. NFL Network is on a low tier in many cable systems, at least on my choices in Atlanta.

Last week, the NFL Network signed a new long-term deal with Cabelvision, pushing their reach to 60 Million homes (still well behind NBC Sports).

As been mentioned in multiple articles, especially those with named industry sources, the Big East might be able to maximize their $$$$ if they parcel out both their Football and basketball contracts in shares/multiple tiers.

Even if the Big East has zero real interest in the NFL Network, if they can continue to add more "bidders" to their package, that will only help the prices of those new deals (with their preferred networks) go up even more.

it would be cool if they parcel their games similar to what the nfl has - a different station can broadcast thursday/friday/saturday/monday games

as I mentioned in another thread, I think it makes perfect sense for 3rd tier content since it is a national network (so you could get the conf. games anywhere on at least directv - read: sports bar)

Makes sense to me. I wouldn't want to put top tier games on there, but I've long wondered when the NFL Network would finally start going after college packages. It certainly makes sense on their end and that's Paul Tagliabue's baby.
Isnt Paul Tagliabue involved with BigEast?
He was, when Marinatto and Tranghese were still around. Not sure about now.

Not sure any longer, I believe he was a Marinatto man. Correct me if I am wrong.

He's the head of Georgetown's board.
Is he still active in the Big East, Frank? Are is he just active at georgetown?
