The Pride of Goodlettsville.

From the Tennessean

Trivia question. What former Memphis Tiger football player played in S. Williamsport for another group of Tennessee All-Stars back in the day? Hint: His son is a current Tiger.

Stan Weaver?

Tony, Randy Carson was on that 1974 team and was later the starting QB for South Side. Wasn't Ronnie Giddens on that team, too?

Winner winner chicken dinner. Jackson American League All-Stars
Saw a "kid" playing for the California team that needs to have his birth certificate double checked...
Goodlettsville is where I played little league ball. A buddy of mine that I played with and graduated with has a son on the team.
Goodlettsville won, 9 to 6. WTG, kids!
Yes Giddens was on the team along with Jeff Fliming

I gotta say that it looks like being there is a whole lot of fun
Don't believe any teams around Memphis participate in that sanctioning body to be eligible for the World Series. I know the Bolton area had a league at one time that was eligible, but wasn't good enough to send a representative. It's a shame. Lots of talent in the area, just so many tournament teams that the talent gets spread out.

And that Jackson, TN league that yielded the 1974 team is now defunct. It had like a dozen teams back then and played at Lions' Field stadium which was really picturesque for that day & age.

That complex had a bowling alley, mini-golf, go-karts, THE swimming pool to go to, batting cages, video games arcade. Now only the bowling alley remains.

To my knowledge, it is all Dixie Youth baseball instead of Little League. Not sure, but I think few West TN leagues are anything but Dixie Youth?

You are correct that that league does not exist in Jackson anymore. It's Dixie Youth here. Also, Crockett, Dyer, Tipton and Henderson play Dixie with Madison
Most teams around here are USSSA. What a major difference in the setup/rules from Little League.

I played Dixie Youth in Jackson, so I never played on that field, but I did watch quite a few of my friends play there. At nine or ten years old I thought that field was incredible. So much better than the old Dixie Youth fields out by the airport. The newer fields on Christmasville Road were nice, but didn't have that professional ball field the way the Little League field had.

Lions Field was the city league. They eventually integrated in the mid-sixties and opened it up to the AA kids who were playing in the Pony League over on E. Chester next to Parkview Elementary.
I was a "city kid" back then but played Dixie Youth ball out in the county at Pope Field. I was "recruited" by Billy Pruitt, a co-worker of my dad to play for Malesus. We had a
lot of fun and I played with the Murley brothers, the older one, Hank and I would
later become teammates at Memphis State. Hate to see the area around Lions Field
and Lambuth deteriorate. That was my stomping ground growing up. The next level was Babe Ruth League and where that park once stood at Highland Park is now part of West TN Healthcare

Same here. I was a city boy who crossed the line to play out in the county. No one ever recruited me to cross back over the line though.

I know Goodlettsville is Little League, but I think most teams around here are Dixie. I could be wrong, I sucked at baseball........maybe I finished the bag?

Yep. Little League World Series champs would get thumped on any given weekend at Snowden Grove or First Tennessee Fields. That is some quality baseball.
seems like you can go ahead and put the Japan team in the final.
Ellendale had a league affiliated with Little Baseball about 15-20 years ago. Not sure if it's still active. I played on an all-star team there that started the process that would have eventually led us to Williamsport had we won out. But we lost our first two games, one in Jackson and one in Lexington, and that was that. I started playing in a competitive league the next year.

As someone said before, most competitive teams would probably beat the Little League all-star teams.
