So here's the latest, from the UH Board of Regents Agenda for next week's meeting. You can see how they are preserving the view of Downtown ("D") while also protecting against the setting Sun with an Upper Deck extending through the West corner.

Note this sketch is not drawn North-South. If it were a clock, the new stadium sits on the 10-4 line, not the 9-3 line.

The rectangular building above the stadium is the new 2400 car parking garage. The Buildings in the lower right corner are new dorms called Cougar Place.

Excellent graphics.

Eat'em Up.
I like the use of crayons. 04-rock

This stadium is going to be a welcome sight on campus. Awesome!
How many will the new stadium seat?
Thanks for the grafhic CougarRed... Can't wait for completion of our new Houston toy. 04-cheers
A little over 40k to start, and designed to expand to 50k, and 60k in an offseason.
Congrats 04-cheers
The layout looks oddly similar to BHNS...

Question: Why isn't it enclosed, fully?

The bowl is not fully enclosed to preserve a view of the downtown skyline. If you mean why doesnt it have a roof, Im sure its matter of cost.

Scale-wise, this would probably mean:

Lower Section

5K along each sideline and 3K in each endzone for 16K total in the lower tier.

Upper Grandstands

8K on the visitors grandstand, 5K in the East endzone and 11K in the home grandstand for 24K total in upper level seating

A couple of major differences besides the fact our upper bowl has a couple of gaps and our capacity will be 40K vs. 45K at BHNS:

1. Our stadium will be concrete;
2. We will have a suite/club level in the middle of the home stands between the lower bowl and the upper grandstand. The only thing at the top of the upper home grandstand will be a press box/coaches box.
We're in the midst of a building boom among the old SWC schools:

Rebuilding Amon Carter Stadium (TCU)
New Baylor Stadium
New UH Stadium
Kyle Field II
What will be the stadium capacity? Did you state 45K? Those in Houston should understand that Big East football is GOOD for everyone. Everything is picking up in Houston and SMU. Cincinnati is waiting on the TV money to announce it's upgrades to our stadium. (from what I understand) Nippert is the 6th oldest stadium in the country and needs more seats and luxary boxes. The plan is to go to about 47K from current 35K.
I envy you guys...that's awesome. Go UH!

Im really excited to get you, SMU, UCF, Boise etc. I think we are gonna be a great conference....now all we need a contract from NBC and a way we go.
If you build it they will come.
Looks good, can't wait to beat you in your new home!

... and they will have water fountains lol (you had to know that one was coming)
Thanks CoogRed, been wondering for quite awhile what was going on! Last I heard, those 'old' artist renderings (from a couple of years ago, when first announced) were being junked, and stadium plan was being reworked. This is what I'm talking about:

So this is the graphic in your post the 'final' new design? I'm curious about the exterior, can't wait to see some updated graphics.

Regarding the BHNS comparion, BHNS is just aluminum bleachers in a 360 bowl, right? This will be a full-up concrete stadium. Any word on bleachers/benches, or a combo thereof?

Either way, welcome news. Can't wait to see it!!

This is a rendering of the basic main design plans. Not the detailed renderings. This layout will likely be the way the bowls and grandstands will look, and how they will be configured in relation to the surrounding buildings/streets.
In between the two levels is where the luxury suites and club boxes will be. Those will be at street level. The lower bowl is sunken, and the upper grandstand is above the luxury/club level.

The exterior will have brick/concrete facade, and a rumored section that will have a visual lighting system that will distinguish it from any other stadium in the NCAA. Also, associated with this rumor is that there may be a feature that will light up the Houston sky after each victory. Perhaps a red light beam. I am not certain.

Between the dowtown view cut our of the northeast corner of the upper grandstands, the lighting display on the exterior facade, and the possible skyward lighting feature, the new stadium will be one that is instantaniously recognizable to the common college football fan whn it is seen on TV. There will be plenty of "money shots" for the camera crews, and most importantly..... the beer will flow like wine!
The detailed renderings of what the stadium will actually look like won't be ready for another 2-4 months. As BornCoog says, this just shows the basic layout and where it will be situated in relation to the other buildings on that block.
