Little brothers Albany and Stony Brook upgrade to the CAA

http://carolinasportsthoughts.blogspot.c...oving.html

Buffalo now has 2 top level FCS programs in its back yard to compete for recruits. Albany upgrading from 42 to 65 schollys.
This is good long term for the North East and potentially the MAC.

If Buffalo is recruiting the same players as those 2, it is very bad for the MAC.

Were not...

Under Gill we were Florida and Texas
Under Quinn were WNY, Ohio, and Michigan

We grab a few players from down state but the benefit of two more serious SUNY schools outweigh their pain of fighting for a player here or there..

Yeah, I didn't figure that you were. I don't know your area or follow your recruiting, but it's pretty safe to say that 99% of your recruits would choose you over those schools, right?

Also, why not Pennsylvania too? There are a lot of good players in that state and you almost have to skip it to get to Ohio...or at least a little portion of it. Do your coaches not have many connections there? For some reason, it seems that regardless who our coaches are at UT, we're always able to land quite a few kids from PA each year.

Absolutely.

I have Stony Brook as MAC #14 in the year 2016 or so... 03-shhhh

Stony Brook could be another UB but in a more populous part of the state.

Stony Brook played some good FB last year, despite being in a mediocre conference.

They have potential and apparently the desire to keep moving their athletic programs up.
Stony Brook would develop natural rivalries with UB and probably UMass as well as I-AA Albany.

I'll bet they would try to get games with Army and maybe VillaNova, etc.

Stony Brook could be a real FCS success story if they move up to the MAC.
UA and SBU aren't really in our 'backyard', either. Buffalo is closer to Toledo than Albany, and Stony Brook is about the same distance away as Muncie. We've always had a strong Colgate program Upstate, Cornell less so, and Hofstra was a strong FCS program Downstate. None really affected our recruiting after a few years in the MAC. SBU just replaces Hofstra football.

UB's team is usually 1/3 NY players and most are Buffalo/Rochester. Albany is usually 'Team NY' with the majority of their roster being from Eastern and Downstate NY, focusing also on NJ and NE. They, the NEC, and Ivy League already recruit in WNY because we have the best HS football outside NYC. Stony Brook stays to the Tri-State.
