EMU and Ball State open with a conference game - that's weird.

13 MAC teams.

You can thank Temple for that one. Well, at least we got paid...it was worth it.

I believe BSU and the Redhawks opened up the season a few years ago during Nate Davis's junior season.

Temple had nothing to do with it.

It was their own doing by not scheduling OOC games in week 1.

It will be interesting to see EMU and Ball State face off this early in the season. Both teams are thought to be on the upswing; we might get an indication of whether one or both of them are contenders.
Penn State -11 1/2 vs Ohio and over/under 43. Oddsmakers are saying low scoring game and its gonna be atleast competitive. This game opened 15 which is alot considering the circumstances.

They need to update these lines now that PSU's starting RB Silas Redd has transfered to USC. PSU's starting Tight End also transferred to Florida State

The one thing PSU has to be banking on being able to stack up physically with the Bobcats in the trenches and then get that ground game going. That may not work as well as planned.

The Bobcats are about equal across the lines but have the additional firepower needed to close out the game in the 4th quarter. The New York Times and Phil Steele both have Ohio in the Top 40 ahead of Penn State and this is before considering any attrition at State College.
The question for Ohio will be Tettleton jelling with the new wideouts. Brazil and Dunlap were go to guys and it will take some time for a set of go to guys to emerge. Tettleton knew last year that throwing any where near Brazil was gonna be a big play. MAC also knew that and left everything else wide open and lots of room for Tettleton and Harden to romp threw on running plays.

I wouldn't touch that game with a ten foot pole with real money. Way too many variables. New coaching staff, uncertain roster, how much the remaining players buy into a "us against the world" attitude for this season, the utter insanity that the stadium will likely be. Week 2 or 3 after we've all had a chance to see them in action, maybe.
Does the lack of numbers mean that no one is betting on the Iowa/NIU game?
Probably off the board because AIRBHG (Angry Iowa Running Back Hating God) is in usual mode where one of their proposed starters got injured and the other arrested.

When Iowa got their new OC their head coach said that they would no longer be using the traditional running back position any more. He said that their O was going to be more like the Patriots...what ever that means.
Kirk Ferentz is going to run a spread passing attack? I'll believe that when I see it.

Ohio has another 5-6 WR guys like Dovell, Furtrell and Foster that have received a significant amount of passes from Tettleton last year. We have 5 upperclassmen at WR returning.

Brazil had a great year for Ohio but it wasn't like he was our only option at receiver by any stretch.
IF (in caps on purpose) OUs DL can hang, this could be your "upset special".

Way way way too much emotion involved on the Penn state side. I hope Ohio can pull it off, but no way would I ever put money on it.

yeah, unfortunately, i agree with you. PSU will be sky high and so will their fans. they will have the world's largest chip on their shoulder! LOL I just hope we can withstand that emotional storm, ride it out, and wait for our chances to pounce. if we can hang around long enough, it could get interesting!

Most magazines and even pessimistic Solich himself thinks Ohio's strength the season is in the trenches...

Quote:“We’ve got the kind of people up front that you need to play football,” Solich said. “It’s an excellent offensive line, and we’ve got depth there.”

Defensively, the Bobcats were very good when they needed to be in 2011 and return eight starters. Solich believes redshirt senior Travis Carrie can be one of the best cornerbacks in the country. The OU coach likes his talent up front, but added, “We need to (bring) pressure with our four-man front if we want to be great.”

Another 5 contributors leave before game 1 and that will tilt the playing field more significantly in Ohio's favor...
